20 Angels in Heaven and 6 Heroic Teachers
I can't stop thinking about the tragedy that has befallen the stricken community of Newton, Ct. after the shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school.
But the move by liberal Democrats is completely off-base. Here is an oldie but goodie to remind you why.
Stupid Laws, Predictable Results.
Denver Drug Agent: Our Problems ‘Have Exploded’ With Pot Legalization
No matter how regulated marijuana is, now that pot is legal in Colorado it will be hard to keep away from curious and unknowing kids, according to a member of a Denver-area drug task force.
“There’s plenty of evidence that this a harmful thing for kids. I can’t even believe I have to say that,” Sgt. Jim Gerhardt with the North Metro Drug Task Force told CBS4. “We’ve seen children infant age that have been getting into this stuff and hospitalized, and this has been under medical marijuana. I can’t imagine how bad it’s going to get with full blown legalization.”
At Arapahoe House, a drug and alcohol counseling center in Thornton, Angela Bornemann said marijuana use is already the most common addiction in teens they see. She says they are now expecting to see more and more problem dependance cases with the passage of Amendment 64.
Report: California is a "Judicial Hellhole"
California is the No. 1 “judicial hellhole” in America, the American Tort Reform Foundation concludes in its annual, end-of-year report on alleged abuse of the legal system.. 1 “judicial hellhole” in America, the American Tort Reform Foundation concludes in its annual, end-of-year report on alleged abuse of the legal system.
This is the first time the state grabbed the top spot; last year, it was second to Philadelphia.
Reasons why the honor went to California? It’s “the undisputed heavyweight champion of the consumer class action,” says the report, released Thursday.
California attracts class action and asbestos lawsuits, allows exploitative disabled access lawsuits and fraudulent slip-and-fall cases, and decimates the court system through budget cuts — while the plaintiffs’ bar relentlessly tries to overturn reasonable limitation on damages in medical cases, the foundation concludes.
“The fact that businesses view California as the worst legal environment in the nation tells us that other jurisdictions are making improvements and that California can’t afford to just stay the same,” Kim Stone, president of the Civil Justice Association of California, said in a news release. “Meritless lawsuits clog our overburdened and underfunded court system, making it harder for truly injured people with valid cased to get their day in court.”
The foundation compiles significant court rulings and legislative actions for the report, and surveys members of the American Tort Reform Association for feedback. The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit is dedicated to reforming the American civil justice system. Members are mostly large corporations and trade associations.
“Consider the source,” said J.G. Preston, a spokesman for trial lawyers and their own association, Consumer Attorneys of California. “The ‘judicial hellhole’ designation comes from companies that want to keep you from taking them to court.”
The tort reform association is funded by corporate giants the likes of Exxon Mobil, General Electric, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Nationwide, the group said.
“ATRA once again is proving to be the Grinch that stole Christmas when it comes to consumer protection and preserving basic legal rights,” Brian Kabateck, president of Consumer Attorneys of California, said in a news release. “Big business simply doesn’t trust the purest form of democracy — our courts with citizen juries. Unless, of course, they’re the ones filing the lawsuits.”

“There Will Be Blood”: Union Violence in the Age of Obama
Yesterday, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed right-to-work legislation into law. The death threats against him are pouring in. The Left is blaming the conservative victims of union violence, as usual. The progressive climate of hate is always our fault. Today’s column sets the Democrats’ call for blood in the context of Obama-era union violence and incitement.
He helped build that.

Not so many moons ago, President Obama urged us all to “make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.” He Who Heals advocated “a more civil and honest public discourse” in the wake of the January 2011 Tucson massacre. As usual, though, the White House has granted Big Labor bullies a permanent waiver from the lofty edicts it issues to everyone else.
This week, menacing union goons unleashed threats, profanity and punches in Michigan, which is now poised to become a “right-to-work” state. Obama met the initial outbreak of violence with the same response he’s given to every other union outbreak of violence under his reign: dead silence.
On the floor of the Michigan legislature on Tuesday, Democratic state Rep. Douglas Geiss thundered: “We’re going to pass something that will undo 100 years of labor relations, and there will be blood. There will be repercussions!” Geiss referenced the Battle of the Overpass, a violent 1937 incident between the United Auto Workers and corporate security officers for the Ford Motor Company. Dozens of union activists were beaten.
