  • The Real Reason Behind Benghazigate?

Was the President Gun-walking Guns to Jihadists? Frank Gaffney examines the connection.

President Obama’s once seemingly unstoppable march toward re-election hit  what he might call “bumps in the road” in Benghazi, Libya, late on Sept. 11, 2012. It might be more  accurate to describe the effect of the well-planned and -executed,  military-style attack on a diplomatic facility there as the political equivalent  of a devastating improvised explosive device on the myth of the unassailability  of the Obama record as commander in chief.

Thanks to intrepid investigative reporting — notably by Bret  Baier and Catherine Herridge at  Fox News, Aaron Klein at WND.com and Clare  Lopez at RadicalIslam.org — and information developed by congressional  investigators, the mystery is beginning to unravel with regard to what happened  that night and the reason for the subsequent, clumsy official cover-up now known  as Benghazigate.

The evidence suggests that the Obama administration has not simply been  engaging, legitimating, enriching and emboldening Islamists who have taken over  or are ascendant in much of the Middle East. Starting in March 2011, when  American diplomat J. Christopher  Stevens was designated the liaison to the “opposition” in Libya,  the Obama administration has been arming them, including jihadists like Abdelhakim  Belhadj, leader of the al Qaeda franchise  known as the Libyan Islamic  Fighting Group.

Once Moammar Gadhafi was overthrown, Stevens was appointed ambassador to  the new Libya run by Mr.  Belhadj and his friends. Not surprisingly, one of the most important  priorities for someone in that position would be to try to find and secure the  immense amount of armaments that had been cached by the dictator around the  country and systematically looted during and after the revolution.

  • Don't Censor Our Seals!

Facebook Censors Navy SEALs to Protect Obama on Benghazi-Gate

Over the weekend, Facebook took down a message by the Special Operations Speaks PAC (SOS) which highlighted the fact that Obama denied backup to the forces being overrun in Benghazi.

The message was contained in a meme which demonstrated how Obama had relied on the SEALS when he was ready to let them get Osama bin Laden, and how he had turned around and denied them when they called for backup on Sept 11.

I spoke with Larry Ward, president of Political Media, Inc -- the media company that handles SOS postings and media production. Ward was the one who personally put the Navy SEAL meme up, and the one who received the warning from Facebook and an eventual 24 hour suspension from Facebook  because Ward put the meme back up after Facebook told him to take it down.

    Here's what Ward told me:

We created and posted this meme on Saturday after news broke that Obama had known and denied SEALS the backup they requested.

Once the meme was up it garnered 30,000 shares, approx. 24,000 likes, and was read by hundreds of thousands of people -- all within 24 hrs. On Sunday, I went into the SOS Facebook page to post something else and found a warning from Facebook that we had violated Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities with our meme. So I copied the warning, put it on the meme as as caption, and re-posted the meme to the Facebook page.

Along with the re-posted meme, Ward put a link to the Facebook "feedback comment" inbox so visitors to the SOS page could send a message to Facebook if they were as outraged over the meme being jerked down as he was.

Ward said Facebook pulled the re-posted meme down within 7 or 8 hours and suspended the SOS account for 24 hours.

In other words, Facebook put the Navy SEALS in timeout in order to shield Obama.

Gallup: Romney Up 52-45% Among Early Voters

Very early on, before this campaign started in earnest, live or die, I publicly cast my lot with Gallup and Rasmussen. As a poll addict going back to 2000, these are the outlets that have always played it straight. SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) — With just 15 days remaining in an impossibly close race for the White House, President Barack Obama sharply challenged Mitt Romney on foreign policy in their final campaign debate Monday night, saying, “every time you’ve offered an opinion you’ve been wrong.” The Republican coolly responded, “Attacking me is not an agenda” for dealing with a dangerous world.

Despite the debate’s stated focus on foreign affairs, time after time the rivals turned the discussion back to the slowly recovering U.S. economy. They found little agreement on that topic either.

Among undecided voters, the economy is the only question that matters; it's a question that matters a whole lot more than who won the debate.

Moreover, if all Obama could muster was 37%, he didn't even capture his base.

A scathing new ad released by the Tea Party Victory Fund Super PAC enlists the “Obama phone lady” to slam President Barack Obama’s economic record.

“Have Barack Obama’s policies empowered or enslaved Americans?” the ad begins.

The shot then cuts to the “Obama phone lady” who says everyone who is a “minority” in Cleveland got an “Obama phone.”

“Keep Obama in president, you know. He gave us a phone, he gonna do more,” she says.

Here is the “Obama record,” according to the ad:

    • 1 in 7 Americans on food stamps • $16 trillion in debt • Millions of jobs lost

“Can we afford four more years of Barack Obama?” the ad concludes.

They have, they think, established two foundation points of the narrative that relieve Obama of any responsibility for the events and their aftermath. The two points are, first, that the deaths of Ambassador Stevens and three others were the result of bad decisions by low-level people in the State Department, not bad policy choices by Obama. The second point is that by doing nothing about the attack -- leaving it to the FBI to investigate and Libya to prosecute the perpetrators

JOURNALISM:  The NYT kept the Libya hearing off the front page because “It’s three weeks before the election and it’s a politicized thing…”  “Is the Libya scandal as big as Watergate? The substance of it may be much worse than Watergate, and the Obama administration seems not to have heeded the old Watergate lesson that it’s the cover-up that gets you, but if Obama loses the election, that will limit the dimension of the scandal. If he wins the election — especially if it’s very close or contested in some way — Republicans may work themselves into a frenzy going after Obama. Remember that Richard Nixon was reelected after the Watergate scandal broke. The break-in was 5 months before the election, and the first stories had come out. The next 2 years were hell for Nixon, and he was drummed out of office. And Nixon had won by a landslide.”

How Obama Gave The Campaign Back To Romney

Screen shot 2012-10-14 at 5.31.09 PM

If anyone thought that the feisty Biden debate undid the massive damage the president did to himself in the first debate, the news isn't great. Biden does seem to have reversed the speed of Obama's free-fall but not the decline itself. Romney's debate obliteration of Obama - something that, in my view, irreparably damages a sitting president - does not seem to be a bounce, but a resilient jump. It's not going away by itself. That is: not a bounce.

And if you were a low-information voter and watched the first debate with one man with energy and ideas (however deceptive) against a president who looked like he was making small talk with a bore at a cocktail party, you'd pick the challenger yourself. It turns out it wasn't the economy (it's been perking up lately) that's become the main challenge for Obama. Nor the Electoral College. Nor a motivated, radical GOP base. It turns out that the main challenge for Obama's re-election in the final stretch is Obama himself.

I've been pilloried for being excitable about that epic first debate. But just look at that graph above (with heightened sensitivity) of the campaign poll of polls since February and tell me I was wrong.

SANDUSKY ON THE THAMES:  The New York Times reports, “Silence on Abuse Reports Plunges BBC Into Scandal:”

As host of the television programs “Jim’ll Fix It” and “Top of the Pops,” Jimmy Savile was one of the British Broadcasting Corporation’s best-known figures in a four-decade career spanning the 1960s to the mid-1990s. But now he is the subject of numerous posthumous investigations into whether he sexually abused perhaps dozens of underage girls, some of them on BBC property.

The scandal has engulfed the corporation, which failed to investigate rumors or take seriously accusations about his behavior at the time. Perhaps even more damningly, it canceled a segment about the allegations that was scheduled to be broadcast last December on “Newsnight,” an influential evening current-affairs program.

About the same time, the corporation broadcast three tributes to Mr. Savile, who died last year at 84.

    What Happened In Benghazi

The State Department has released a transcript of a briefing that two high-ranking department officials gave to a number of reporters via conference call on October 9 (Tuesday). I am not certain about this, but I believe the transcript was only made public today. You should read it in its entirety; it is the most detailed description I have seen of the events in Benghazi on September 11.

While this is by no means clear, it appears that the State Department may have released the transcript as part of the escalating conflict between Barack Obama and Joe Biden and the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. In their desperation to avoid responsibility for the Benghazi debacle, Obama and Biden have pointed fingers in two directions: at the intelligence community for reporting incorrectly that the incident was a protest over a YouTube video clip, and at the State Department for not providing adequate security for the Ambassador.

Here are some excerpts from the narrative:

A few minutes later – we’re talking about 9 o’clock at night – the Ambassador retires to his room, the others are still at Building C, and the one agent in the [Tactical Operations Center]. At 9:40 p.m., the agent in the TOC and the agents in Building C hear loud noises coming from the front gate. They also hear gunfire and an explosion. The agent in the TOC looks at his cameras – these are cameras that have pictures of the perimeter – and the camera on the main gate reveals a large number of people – a large number of men, armed men, flowing into the compound. One special agent immediately goes to get the Ambassador in his bedroom and gets Sean, and the three of them enter the safe haven inside the building. …

They turn around immediately and head back – or the two of them, from Building B, turn around immediately with their kit and head back to Villa C, where the Ambassador and his colleagues are. They encounter a large group of armed men between them and Building C. I should say that the agent in Building C with the Ambassador has radioed that they are all in the safe haven and are fine. The agents that encounter the armed group make a tactical decision to turn around and go back to their Building B and barricade themselves in there. So we have people in three locations right now.

And I neglected to mention – I should have mentioned from the top that the attackers, when they came through the gate, immediately torched the barracks. It is aflame, the barracks that was occupied by the 17th February Brigade armed host country security team. I should also have mentioned that at the very first moment when the agent in the TOC seized [sic -- apparently should read "sees"] the people flowing through the gate, he immediately hits an alarm, and so there is a loud alarm. He gets on the public address system as well, yelling, “Attack, attack.” Having said that, the agents – the other agents had heard the noise and were already reacting.

Okay. So we have agents in Building C – or an agent in Building C with the Ambassador and Sean, we have two agents in Building B, and we have two agents in the TOC. All – Building C is – attackers penetrate in Building C. They walk around inside the building into a living area, not the safe haven area. The building is dark. They look through the grill, they see nothing. They try the grill, the locks on the grill; they can’t get through. The agent is, in fact, watching them from the darkness. He has his long gun trained on them and he is ready to shoot if they come any further. They do not go any further.

They have jerry cans. They have jerry cans full of diesel fuel that they’ve picked up at the entrance when they torched the barracks. They have sprinkled the diesel fuel around. They light the furniture in the living room – this big, puffy, Middle Eastern furniture. They light it all on fire, and they have also lit part of the exterior of the building on fire. At the same time, there are other attackers that have penetrated Building B. The two agents in Building B are barricaded in an inner room there. The attackers circulate in Building B but do not get to the agents and eventually leave.

That’s not exactly surprising, considering the glaring misogyny of this administration from its start:

The report shows that Wyoming, South Dakota and Nevada ranked as the top three states for taxes on business, while California, New Jersey and New York ranked among the bottom three.

The best states usually lack at least one of the major statewide taxes, such as the corporate tax, the individual income tax or the sales tax.

Last night in Washington D.C., an advanced screening was held of the new film, Hating Breitbart. The director, Andrew Marcus was in attendance along with producers Maura Flynn and Evan Coyne Maloney.  The theater was filled with Andrew's friends, fans and admirers.

The movie follows Breitbart for two years, chronicling his fight against the mainstream media and his battles with the institutional left.  Behind the scenes footage of Andrew's interview with Terry Moran of ABC, appearance at Netroots nation, Weiner-gate press conference hijack and ACORN take down were quite popular with the movie going crowd.

Andrew said he has two modes of operation "jocularity and righteous indignation" and the movie showcases both. Nowhere is his righteous indignation more evident than in the scenes of Andrew's speeches to activists where he exhorts them to push forward as a new media army.

Kerry Pickett of the Washington Times, who was in the movie, said:

"Hating Breitbart" reminded me that Andrew was willing to absorb the hits that were often aimed at people who came to him for help when they were unfairly attacked, and when he hit back he did it with not only remarkable intelligence but also wicked humor.

Hating Breitbart opens in theaters October 19.
