  • Move America Forward Occupies Bagdad!

    Day 4 -

Guys we just had a Rally in the city of Bagdad Arizona as part of Move America Forward’s ‘Honoring Heroes at the Holidays Tour’. It was the best rally ever.

I was pretty skeptical, coming into town. We didn’t expect much. When we called Freeport McMoRan, the mining company that basically ‘owns’ the whole town, they said… “You want to do this here? Do you know anything about Bagdad, do you know how small it is?” We didn’t really care, it’s Bagdad!

So we rolled our bus into town fully expecting to have a short, tiny little rally and as we got to the parking lot of the Miner’s Diner it looked like that would be the case. There was not a single soul there to meet us.

That was okay, this town only has a few thousand residents anyways, it’s not like some gigantic media market that we’re trying to crack, but the name of the place being Bagdad, AZ it just made too much sense when the finale of our tour is (hopefully) a trip to Baghdad, Iraq. Well we were about half an hour late, so maybe they all left, That was one thought I had. The other thought was…well nobody cares.

    How wrong I was.

    Folks,

We don't have media reports up yet, but they will follow shortly, with pictures too!

I wanted to say a word about the initial blog burst from Move America Forward as we engaged in Day One of the 'Honoring Our Heroes for the Holiday Tour' across 40 cities in United States, rallying support for our troops and their mission. Danny Gonzelez, who is not our youngest staffer- but almost- really inspires me. Although 25 years old, he has captured the essence of what we are doing and trying to accomplish in honoring the brave men and women from previous wars, and most certainly the current ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Danny (and Ryan Gill who IS the youngest) represent the best of their generation, with their patriotism, enthusiasm, and deep empathy for our soldiers, sailors, marines, army, air force and coast guardsmen. Here are two reports by Danny Gonzelez, Move America Forward chief road trippin' blogger. www.moveamericaforward.com in case the pictures don't come through.  Warmest,Melanie Morgan

Nov 26 1500 - Naughty, Defeatist Congresswoman has Nothing but Coal in her Stockings

     November 26
    1558 Hrs
    Walnut Creek, CA

    Leaving Ellen Tauscher’s Office
While it’s absolutely true that the focus of the Honoring Heroes at the Holidays tour is to honor veterans and those currently serving, it had come to our attention that some of our stops provided unique opportunities to do some ‘creative’ work. Walnut Creek afforded us one such opportunity. After just leaving a great rally in San Jose, where we were brought 2500 cards for the troops by residents there, the Move America Forward team booked it to Walnut Creek where we had a mission to complete. Ellen Tauscher represents California’s 10th district, professes to be a moderate Blue Dog democrat, and is active in military affairs issues and sits on the House Armed Services Committee. She voted for the war along with most other democrats but when MoveOn.org targeted her in her primary race to get a more anti-war, liberal candidate, Tauscher turned hard to the left and adopted a political stance more in line with what MoveOn wanted. It’s no secret that MoveOn and groups like it are steering democrats into more socialist, far left territory, and MoveOn is not bashful about using it’s money and influence to strong arm Democrats so that they fall in line. Washington Congressman Brian Baird has the political cajones to stand up for what is right and true, at least when it comes to Iraq. After returning from a visit to the war-torn country, he has changed his position, now saying that our troops are winning the war, and that we must stay until the job is complete. Tauscher has been to Iraq multiple times and returned from a trip at exactly the same time Baird changed his tune on the war. But rather than see all the improvements that Baird saw in Iraq, Tauscher denied any progress, maintaining that our troops were losing the war and dying for no reason. Knowing this, Move America Forward just had to respond. When we arrived in Walnut Creek we were greeted by dozens of enthusiastic supporters who were eager to help us send Tauscher a message. From the bowels of our tour bus we produced stockings and bags of charcoal briquettes. Our eager volunteers each took hold of a stocking, 13 of them in all, and stood in line while I filled each to the brim with wonderfully black, sooty COAL !!! We were so excited, crowding two elevators full of people and riding to the 5th floor of the building where Tauscher’s local field office was located in Walnut Creek. We were all in the hallway waiting and ready to deliver our message when Deborah Johns bursts through the door (well, sort of…more like casually walking in like you own the place!) followed by Debbie Lee leading a throng of patriots carrying 13 stockings full to the brim with coal. The office staff there feigned polity and listened as some of the people from the community voiced their concerns and disappointment. She tried to defend Tauscher’s positions, retreating into an office and returning back with fact sheets for everyone explaining some of Tauscher’s ‘official views’ on the troops. But that was no fooling the coal-bearers! One immediately protested that while Tauscher might have voted to fund a veteran’s aid program here or there, she votes against the bills that really count for funding the war and providing the supplies our troops in Iraq need to do their jobs. Another piped up that Tauscher’s derogatory comments about General David Patreus were not included on the ‘fact’ sheet. They wanted to know who we were, so Deborah Johns and Debbie Lee stepped forward to speak on behalf of Move America Forward. Deborah Johns reiterated what everyone else had said, and pointed out several instances of Tauscher flip flopping on the war, pandering to the extreme liberals. That said, Tauscher’s staff had enough and their chief of staff simply opened the door. I don’t recall her actually asking us to leave, but in a dramatic procession, each coal-bearer walked out the door, as they passed by the main reception desk, they each left his or her bag full of coal on a huge mounting pile of coal-filled stockings. And then we were gone. The last few remaining supporters made their sentiments known on their way out the door. One young man asked what would have happened if we had tried to fight World War 2 with half the congress speaking out in defiance and opposition to our Commander-in-Chief and against the war effort, as they do today. Back downstairs in front of the building, there was cheering, clapping, and high fives. I congratulated some of the people I had seen upstairs voicing their opinions so articulately. We had made a bold statement, and we’d also collected 1,500 more Christmas Cards! Bravo! I can tell I’m getting a little longwinded here, and while I could go on and on with more details about the whole scene, I’ll let the few pictures we were able to snap speak for themselves. -danny [maf]

    Santa Nella, CA
    San Joaquin Memorial
We just stepped back on the bus after our kickoff event in Santa Nella, California. As the first stop on the main part of the “Honoring Heroes at the Holidays” Tour, Santa Nella was the perfect place to begin a national pro-troop tour with a solemn, spiritual cast away. In previous tours we’ve kicked off with a big bash, but since this tour is all about honoring our heroes for their service and our veterans for their sacrifice, especially those who paid the ultimate price, it was much better to have an intimate ceremony to open up the tour. We gathered at 9 this morning at the Veterans Memorial in the San Joaquin Memorial Cemetery just outside of Santa Nella. This is the final resting place for thousands of brave souls who gave, quite literally, everything they had to defend their homeland. Accordingly, the Cemetery also houses several memorials. Move America Forward, working with the Department of Veterans Affairs arranged to hold a wreath-laying ceremony with park officials and Move America Forward spokespersons as a signal to begin a 40-city nationwide tour in which we hope to collect 100,000 Christmas, Hanukkah, and Holiday Greeting Cards for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We were joined by a local Minister, Milton Barry, and a US Army Honor Guard detachment. Reverend Barry opened up our ceremony with an invocation and led us all in prayer, asking for the safety and deliverance of all those who have willingly put themselves in harms way to protect the lives and freedoms of Americans back home. Rev. Barry is a veteran of the armed services himself. He was in the Army for 5 years, retiring in 1940 after being trained as a pilot dropping paratroopers into combat zones. After returning to civilian life, Milton Barry married his lifelong sweetheart and went to college and then seminary school, eventually becoming a Minister of the church and a prominent figure in the community in and around Santa Nella. After Reverend Barry opened it up for us, Buzz Patterson led us through a short program where he, Deborah Johns and Debbie Lee, all veterans of previous Move America Forward campaigns, shared their stories and communicated how important they all felt it was for us to remember and honor our past and current veterans, and that God-willing, they would be able to return home safely. When we were ready to lay the wreath, our Military Moms, the “Fighting Debs”, Deborah Johns and Debbie Lee raised the wreath together and gently laid it at the base of the memorial statue. It was a memorial to Airborne Infantry soldiers and was a life size bronze of a soldier in dress uniform and holding his M1 Garand rifle at attention.

I’m now sitting here on the bus, with my family, Move America Forward, on our way to San Jose for a pro-troop rally. This is what we love to do. And this time we have a bus with a professional driver to help us make our trek across 12 states on a mission to bring our troops a message. That message is that this holiday season, while you are serving your country in the scorching heat of the Iraqi sun, dumping the sand out of your boots and checking for scorpions each morning, sleeping in your tents when the desert freezes each night, hunting down al-Qaeda terrorists, rebuilding schools and waterways, restoring power to Iraqi communities, and training Iraqi volunteers into an expert police force and professional military capable of ensuring Iraq’s own national security. As you do these things each day after day, in Iraq, 12,000 miles from your homes here in America, working tirelessly without complaint, we are thinking of you. We thank you. We honor you.

THE situation in Iraq has im proved so rapidly that Democrats now shun the topic as thoroughly as they shun our troops when the cameras aren't around.
Yes, Iraq could still slip back into reverse gear. And no, we're not going to get a perfect outcome. But the positive indicators are now so strong that the left's defeatist lies are losing traction among the American people.
Attacks of every kind are down by at least half - in some cases by more than three-quarters. A wounded country's struggling back to health. And our mortal enemies, al Qaeda's terrorists, have suffered a defeat from which they may never fully recover: They've lost street cred.

  • UPDATE! Cambridge Bureaucrats Respond

Executive Director of the Cambridge Elections Commission Marsha Weinerman, who sicced the cops on a Boy Scouts troop trying to collect goodies for our service men and women in Iraq--calling their efforts a POLITICAL STATEMENT-- is feeling the heat from patriotic Americans. Your e-mails and phone calls shut-down both their server and voice mail in Cambridge, Ma. on Friday.

A troop of Boy Scouts in Cambridge set up donation boxes at 33 polling stations in that city on election day last week. Their mission was to collect amenities for troops serving overseas - those little items like snacks and lip balm that make life a little easier. The Scouts had spent considerable time and money to publicize the event, distributing fliers in city buildings, libraries and local businesses well ahead of time, according to their troop leader, Jamisean Patterson, writing in this week’s Cambridge Chronicle.

Most of the boxes were set up in the lobbies of those polling stations with the permission of the Cambridge Election Commission, Patterson wrote.

Then one resident in one precinct complained about the implied “pro war” message, according to Marsha Weinerman, executive director of the Election Commission. The city’s law department was consulted and “it was determined that the best course of action would be to remove the boxes,” Weinerman told the Chronicle.

    Now her boss responds.

Notice Mr. Tim Toomey never addresses the ACTUAL issue. Smart. Change the subject. He calls it a 'bureaucratic oversight'.

    Um-Hmm.

But distraction and deflection doesn't work for me.

Ms. Weinerman and Mr. Toomey ARE the problem. ONE resident complains about a 'pro-war' message from the kids and the cops come rushing in to shut-down the Boy Scouts humanitarian efforts.

    Pathetic.

Here's Tim Toomey's side of the story.

In light of recent events on Election Day in which Boy Scouts Troop 45 was asked to remove donation boxes it had placed in Cambridge polling locations to collect essential goods for local troops serving overseas, I think it is only appropriate to clarify a few matters.

First, it is important to note that although over the past five years there has been heated debate about the wars themselves, Cambridge always has and will continue to support the men and women from our city who have bravely put their lives on the line for our country.    Three weeks ago, on October 22nd, I sponsored a Cambridge City Council resolution in support of the Cambridge Boy Scouts Troop 45 and their effort to support the Cambridge Military deployed overseas.  The Cambridge City Council unanimously approved the resolution and went on record on October 22nd commending the Boy Scouts on organizing the Care Package Donation Drive and urging all citizens to support the Boy Scouts effort and bring in donations for the Cambridge men and women proudly serving abroad. Resolutions like this one reflect the deep support Cambridge has for its soldiers fighting abroad. The people of Cambridge understand that supporting our troops and supporting the war those troops are fighting in are often two very different things.  While this is an extremely unfortunate event, it was caused by an apparent lack of communication and understanding rather than the malicious intent of any of the parties involved.

Although they had informed the Election Commission of their intent and received encouragement from the City Council, the individual polling locations had not been notified in time and therefore had not granted the necessary permissions to Troop 45.

This is the kind of frustrating bureaucratic oversight that better communication will help to prevent in the future.  Cambridge is the first city in the State—and to my knowledge the country—that is offering full salary and benefits to city employees who are overseas serving our country. To say that we do not care about the well being of our troops is preposterous.  The Home Rule Petition that I sponsored on behalf of the Cambridge City Council is one of the most comprehensive benefit plans for our brave men and women around.  Since the beginning of the military involvement in Afghanistan, City Councilor Marjorie Decker has read the names of every fallen soldier from every community around the country at each weekly meeting. We do this to honor and recognize the supreme sacrifice these heroes have made on behalf of our country. I encourage all those cities and towns currently looking down on Cambridge to examine their own policies and see if they are on par with Cambridge.  If any good can come of this controversy I do hope that this will be it. Boy Scouts Troop 45's efforts to support our troops are a benefit for the entire community, and the Council will continue to work with them to ensure that their goals are fully realized.  I'm glad this incident has brought their admirable mission into the public eye, and I encourage everyone to show their support in this season of giving by donating to the Boy Scouts of America. Thank you for expressing your concern, I hope you will continue your civic involvement in the future. Tim Toomey

RadioEqualizerBlogSpot has a comprehensive look at how the media has responded to this blood libel of our troops.

Marooned in Marin (who doesn't actually live in California anymore) is keeping a close eye on the situation from the East Coast and reports:

It sounds fishy when the Boy Scouts donation box was removed while anti-war fliers hung on the bulletin board in the same polling place, as a story from the Boston Heraldsaid (which was linked here yesterday).

"At the same polling station that was the scene of the complaint, on the same bulletin board where the Scouts had posted their flier were about 75 other fliers. According to Patterson they included those “promoting Get Out of Iraq, Campus Green, College Democrats of America.” The only one removed belonged to “those evil Boy Scouts collecting things for the troops,” he added."

Simple. Because Toomey is an anti-war, anti-military lib who voted to approve a resolution calling for the censure and or impeachment of President Bush on April 24, 2006. The text of the resolution cited (without any proof) that "President George W. Bush knowingly misled Congress and the American people into an illegal preemptive war against Iraq, costing its citizens billions of tax dollars and countless American and Iraqi lives; and (Whereas) President Bush has admitted to conducting warrantless wiretaps in direct violation of the laws of the Congress of the United States.

No, Vice Mayor Toomey. We know whose side you and Ms. Weinerman are on and it isn't on the side of our troops or the American people, no matter how you try to sugarcoat it.

  • No Whining, Ms.Wienerman!

From Cat Moy's Blog at The Daily File Blog

The story of the Wicked Witch Weinerman vs. the Boy Scouts

First, the crazies at the ACLU sued the Boy Scouts because the Scouts don’t condone homosexuality. Now an election official in Cambridge, Mass., stopped the Boy Scouts from collecting goods for American troops serving overseas. Why? Because the bureaucrat lost her patriotism and common sense somewhere in the anti-American sewers that are polluting our nation.

Here’s the story: A local Boy Scouts troop decided back in August that it would like to collect items, such as much-needed toiletries, for our troops. The Boy Scout leader said he got permission from the county to set up collection sites on Election Day.

Marsha Weinerman - The Woman Who Shut Down the Care Package Drive

But some hate-monger complained and that set off a chain of events that lit a fire under Marsha Weinerman (I did not make up her name) and caused her to boot the Boy Scouts’ care package collection bins.

“We just wanted to support the troops,” Boy Scout Patrick O’Donnell told a TV reporter.

What was Ms. Wienerman’s beef with the Boy Scouts efforts? She said they were too pro-war.

Here at Move America Forward we hear this tripe all the time. So I am quite happy to take on and call out the Weinerman’s of the world.

First of all, our military does much more than kill bad people. Just look at our blog and you’ll find stories of our troops caring for babies, building schools for poor children, installing bridges for locals, etc. etc. What in the hell is pro-war about this, Ms. Weinerman?

Ever heard of Jessica Lynch? Yeah, the small woman who proudly served as a soldier and was ambushed by terrorists. Her job was not killing people. She worked in supplies, Ms.  Weinerman.

When Katrina hit, devastating New Orleans, our troops were there saving people. Pro-war? I think not, Ms. Weinerman.

How about the recent wildfires in Southern California that destroyed hundreds of homes. Guess who was there to rescue and help? That’s right. Our troops, Ms. Weinerman.

And this one should not be lost on anyone - least of all the head of the elections department, which Ms. Weinerman is:  it is because of our troops and veterans that we have the right to vote and free elections.

It is sad that somebody with Ms. Wienerman’s ignorance about the American military has the power to hurt our troops and our Boy Scouts. And it sickens me that tax dollars pay her salary.

I hope that everybody will call Ms. Wienerman at (617) 349-4363) and tell her to educate herself before she disrupts the goodwill of others. Tell her she should apologize to the Boy Scouts AND our troops. Then she should help the Boy Scouts, who continue their work away from Wienerman’s scheming reach.

When she’s done with her apology, perhaps Ms. Weinerman should come to Sacramento – on her own dime – and help us pack thousands of care packages that we are sending to our troops.

I don’t want to hear any whining, Weinerman. Our men and women are sweating, bleeding and dying for you. So show some respect and appreciation.

  • Cold-Hearted Boston Woman Shuts Down Boy Scouts!

I couldn’t believe this despicable story when I first heard it and neither could the folks at television station WFXT in Boston, MA.

Local Boy Scouts in Boston were collecting care package items to send to the troops during this holiday season – that is until city officials stepped in, called law enforcement and shut down their care package collections for the troops.

The mean, cold-hearted woman who shut down the Boy Scouts efforts is a city official named Marsha Weinerman of Boston, Massachusetts who was appointed to her post July 1, 2006.

You can contact Ms. Weinerman at this email address:

GET READY TO RAMBLE (to Sacramento)

    Tomorrow--November 13th -- 12:00 Noon.

A pro-troop rally, and cards-for-the-troops drive takes place at the Land Park Ampitheter in Sacramento's Land Park region.

Attention all active duty or reserve members of the military!

Please come to Sacramento tomorrow so that we may honor YOU!

It's the first event in Move America Forward's "Honoring Heroes at the Holidays Tour" - and there will be all sorts of great things going on (great speakers, card making stations for kids to make holiday greeting cards that will be given to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan), free food, and more.  [ More information here:  http://www.MoveAmericaForward.org ]

We're also inviting the media out to cover the event so we can be sure to get the media to favorably pay tribute to the approximately 200,000 American military men and women who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah and the holiday season.

We're trying to get a crowd of 300 people out for this event.  I'm hoping you can help us accomplish this by coming (and please bring along family and friends - pack up the cars, SUVs, trucks, minivans, motorhomes and motorcycles!).  We'll also be collecting Christmas/Hanukah/Holiday greeting cards if you want to write some out to our troops with a message, bring them by to the rally and we'll deliver them direct to troops based in Iraq and Afghanistan!

  • Thinking of our soldiers --always, always remember.

So many lovely tributes have been written about Veterans Day, all of which  make me weep,  because most of the men  in my family are veterans.

My husband, my father, my brother, my cousin, my grandfather (who served twice - World War I and World War II), and my Uncle Robert Morgan who paid the ultimate price for our freedom while on a bombing mission in the Big War.

But this essay from Barbara Ladeen, a great lady, really touches me.

    And from Winter's Soldier Story.

  • Dear Nancy ,

DON'T GET IN THE WAY OF A MOTHER AND HER SOLDIER SON.

A letter from Beverly Perlson, whose son is a Bronze Star Recipient, to the armchair 'General' Nancy Pelosi, who is micromanaging a war that she despises.

  • Best Photo News of the Year --from Blogger Michael Yon

    h/t Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit.com

THANKS AND PRAISE: Michael Yon emails: "I photographed men and women, both Christians and Muslims, placing a cross atop the St. John's Church in Baghdad. They had taken the cross from storage and a man washed it before carrying it up to the dome. A Muslim man had invited the American soldiers from 'Chosen' Company 2-12 Cavalry to the church, where I videotaped as Muslims and Christians worked and rejoiced at the reopening of St John's, an occasion all viewed as a sign of hope. The Iraqis asked me to convey a message of thanks to the American people. 'Thank you, thank you,' the people were saying. One man said, 'Thank you for peace.' Another man, a Muslim, said 'All the people, all the people in Iraq, Muslim and Christian, is brother.' The men and women were holding bells, and for the first time in memory freedom rang over the ravaged land between two rivers.

Let's hope these sentiments continue to spread.

Michael Yon's trip's to Iraq are self-financed. Let's  help him out.

  • Move America Forward's 'Thinker Man' Sal Russo has a moving letter

This weekend I had the opportunity to meet celebrated wit, lawyer, pop icon and political satirist, Ben Stein, who was in Sacramento to speak at my alumni dinner, the Pacific McGeorge School of Law Gala.  In addition to the expected humor and entertaining story telling, Stein also made everyone take note of our great country and the heroic men and women in the military.

He started his presentation with a story detailing how much he thanks God every day for the privilege of being an American, the greatest county on earth.  I wondered if the liberal audience might moan some disapproval, but was grateful that a handsome round of applause followed.  For some perverse reason, many liberals seem to have problems saluting America and our military, and Stein made every liberal in the place recognize where he stood.

  • Note to Condi--Start Kickin' Some Ass at State!

The State Department cowards are lashing out at the outrageous idea they should be given a "choice" about whether they should be assigned to serve in Iraq.

If that's how you people feel --- then QUIT.

Blogger Ron Winter sums it up nicely.

"No wonder America's enemies and allies alike think this country is soft, weak, sissified, and incompetent. All they see is the diplomatic corps, which according to last week's reprehensible display, is soft, weak, sissified and incompetent.

"Oh, Mr. President. I can't serve there", whine, whine, sniffle, sniffle, "I don't agree with your policies."

I've been to Iraq. I'm a journalist, and I have kids. The burden fell entirely on my husband, and yeah, it was difficult, but not nearly as hard as the average 18-month tour of our soldiers.

Michelle Malkin, Michael Yon, Jeff Emanuel, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Oliver North...they didn't HAVE to go. But they DID.

I'm 'volunteering' to go back again over the Christmas Holidays, just to show our soldiers how much we appreciate them. I'm not expecting, nor do I deserve any medals for bravery. I just love our guys and gals to pieces. I feel honored to be with them while they are away from their families, fighting for a historic cause.

So, for all the foreign service officers who signed up for dangerous duty --do your freakin' job, and STOP acting like cry-babies.

  • "Thousands of Iraqi's are returning home" --

The violence in Baghad and surrounding provinces has stabilized to the point where Iraqi citizens are voting with their feet. They are on the move back home again.

Now you get to guess where that headline is running in the MSM coverage.

    New York Times, Page 1?

    LAT, Page 1?

    Chicago Tribune, Page1?

    Nope.

My hometown newspaper is the Marin Independant Journal. It's prominently displayed on Page A8 (just kidding! it is printed in tiny print below the fold.)

FOX News, of course, has details.

    (But you knew that!)

  • The REAL Story of Kathleen Willey & The Clintons

Kathleen Willey is familiar name to those of us who lived through the 90's OUTRAGED by the Clinton's illegal, immoral and unjust treatment of the women William Jefferson Clinton abused and assaulted.

There's a new book coming out in a few days.

It's called TARGET: Caught in the Crosshairs of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

    By Kathleen Willey.

Get it. Read it. Learn it. And use it every chance you get to fight back against the possibility that Hillary Clinton will be our next Commander-In-Chief.

I have contributed information to this book that is little known beyond the San Francisco area, where I discussed it briefly on my radio show.

    It's a bombshell.
