Tea Party fave Chuck DeVore's new pals: Conservatives..in Hollywood?
Oh, sure, Orange County Assemblyman Chuck DeVore's US Senate campaign may lag in the polls and in the fundraising race. But they're all over the new media stuff -- have won awards from political types for their Tweeting. And then there's Chuck's pioneering iPhone app. But still, Chuck's name recognition lags. So this week Team DeVore launched an old school effort to bump it up through an ol' fashioned billboard campaign. Just like this: Where did Chuck D from the OC get the idea for the $100,000 campaign? From where every conservative, Tea Party-endorsed Senate candidate does: From Hollywood! Whaa? Stephen K. Bannon, writer-director of "Generation Zero" conceived of the effort. The other Hollywood type -- as do many conservatives there -- preferred to remain anonymous...presumably so he could work in town again. Just guessing there. Also helping with layout and artwork: DeVore's 18-year-old daughter, Jennie, who appears on the kids' show (freaky coincidence alert!) iCarly. And no, the campaign confirms, she isn't the second, unnamed Hollywood connection. Said Bannon: "The concept of placing Chuck Devore in front of the Constitution was a natural. Chuck's entire career has been about service to country and defense of our basic freedoms. We are glad to represent a growing section of the creative community that actively supports Chuck Devore's candidacy for the Republican nomination for United States Senate." Oh, by the way, those of us in Northern California won't be seeing Chuck D blocking out the sun on a freeway near us. Closest we get, according to these maps, is somewhere around Madera on Highway 99. Who's up for loading up the kids in the minivan for a road trip to see Chuck's billboard?
