As a conservative, watching the actions of the California Supreme Court Thursday filled me an overwhelming feeling of dismay.

The High Court (comprised mostly of Republicans) decided in favor of judicial activism, instead of honoring the will the the majority of Californians when voters definitively pronounced that marriage is between one man, and one woman in 2000.

The decision seemed to catch US News and World Report off-guard...the editorial, er, newsroom reporters were convinced that the court would rule against the Gay Rights coalition, but that was not the case.

Senator McCain would be well-advised to jump on this band-wagon. Apparently, his campaign has put out a statement denouncing the California High Court decision. It's a good start.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom broke the law two years ago by allowing lesbians and homosexuals to legally wed, while opponents fumed from the sidelines and in attorney's conference rooms where they are preparing for full-attack via legal challenges.

The gelled wonder, Mayor Newsom, has now assured himself of becoming our next Governor.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, the law, the process, and the will of the people have been subverted. Temporarily. Proponents of a proposition measure to state --again--that marriage is between a man and a woman, are quickly gathering signatures.

In other words, this whole mess is politics as usual.
