A bunch of whiny leftists lost BIG TIME in their ploy to cause the Sacramento County California Board of Supervisors to vote globally, think locally.

They petitioned the Board to vote for a withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq.

Guess there weren't enough potholes left to fill.

This is the first time ever that the strategy by MoveOn.org and others of their ilk has FAILED.

Steve and Virginia Pearcy, anti-war activists who owned a home in Lands Park, Sacramento were behind the failed attempt.

You remember these guys?

They hung a soldier in effigy from their home.

Move America Forward folks, who have just returned from Iraq, spoke eloquently and passionately against any such measure. At the end of the day, the measure to demand immediate American troop withdrawal was tabled.

That's government speak for PATRIOTS WIN --LEFTISTS LOSE!

(SACRAMENTO) -- The Sacramento pro-troop organization, Move America Forward (website:  www.MoveAmericaForward.org ), is applauding the decision by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to table a vote on a resolution that would have undermined U.S. troops by calling for a phased withdrawal from Iraq before our troops missions were successfully completed.

Move America Forward representatives spoke at today's meeting of the Board of Supervisors after returning from a 10-day trip to Iraq over the Christmas holiday.  The following is the prepared statement delivered by Mary Pearson, Deputy Executive Director of Move America Forward, a Sacramento County resident:

 ____________________________

To the members of the Board of Supervisors for Sacramento County I come before the board today in opposition to the Resolution Supporting Phased Withdrawal of US Forces from Iraq.  My name is Mary Pearson, and I am the Deputy Executive Director of Move America Forward, the nation’s largest pro-troop organization.

I believe strongly that by passing this resolution, this body will be sending the wrong message about its role in government, and the wrong message about the work our troops are doing in Iraq.

I have just returned from Iraq as part of a delegation sent by Move America Forward to deliver over 225,000 Christmas and holiday greeting cards for the troops that we collected from Americans across this nation.

We traveled to Baghdad and Ramadi Iraq and embedded with soldiers in the US Army in control of several Sunni dominated southern Baghdad neighborhoods. We spent time with servicemen and servicewomen from all branches of the military, we ate with them in the mess halls, talked with them in the barracks and saw what conditions were like for them over in Iraq.

We accompanied armed patrols into the neighborhoods of Baghdad to see exactly how our soldiers do their work.  I was able to see for myself, firsthand, the progress that has been achieved – progress which has cut down on the violence that has threatened the lives of the Iraqi people as well as our soldiers deployed there.

The results have been a new life possible for Iraqis who were once oppressed under a brutal dictatorial regime, and then caught in a violent religious civil war.  If you ask the men and women of the United States military who risk their lives every day to continue that progress…you ask them if its worth the sacrifice. What do you think they would tell you? Well, I asked them, and time and time again they told me yes.  It’s very tough for our soldiers to put their lives on the line every day – but they do it. Our men and women serving over there are the most professional and well-trained fighting force in history.

They have been doing a wonderful job in Iraq, they have paid heavy prices, but they have also seen the progress they have made, they take pride in that progress and ownership of those neighborhoods and they WANT to see that progress  I urge the Board of Supervisors to consider this when making your decisions.

Do not send a message to our troops telling them that their sacrifices are in vain. Do not send the message that the great accomplishments our troops have made are unappreciated. Do not support this horrible resolution that has nothing to do with improving Sacramento County, but everything to do with undermining the missions of our brave and heroic troops.
