A bunch of whiny leftists lost BIG TIME in their ploy to cause the Sacramento County California Board of Supervisors to vote globally, think locally. They petitioned the Board to vote for a withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq. Guess there weren't enough potholes left to fill. This is the first time ever that the strategy by MoveOn.org and others of their ilk has FAILED. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS33JHIa52E Steve and Virginia Pearcy, anti-war activists who owned a home in Lands Park, Sacramento were behind the failed attempt. You remember these guys?
They hung a soldier in effigy from their home.
Move America Forward folks, who have just returned from Iraq, spoke eloquently and passionately against any such measure. At the end of the day, the measure to demand immediate American troop withdrawal was tabled.
That's government speak for PATRIOTS WIN --LEFTISTS LOSE!
I believe strongly that by passing this resolution, this body will be sending the wrong message about its role in government, and the wrong message about the work our troops are doing in Iraq.
We traveled to Baghdad and Ramadi Iraq and embedded with soldiers in the US Army in control of several Sunni dominated southern Baghdad neighborhoods. We spent time with servicemen and servicewomen from all branches of the military, we ate with them in the mess halls, talked with them in the barracks and saw what conditions were like for them over in Iraq. We accompanied armed patrols into the neighborhoods of Baghdad to see exactly how our soldiers do their work.
They have been doing a wonderful job in Iraq, they have paid heavy prices, but they have also seen the progress they have made, they take pride in that progress and ownership of those neighborhoods and they WANT to see that progress Do not send a message to our troops telling them that their sacrifices are in vain. Do not send the message that the great accomplishments our troops have made are unappreciated. Do not support this horrible resolution that has nothing to do with improving Sacramento County, but everything to do with undermining the missions of our brave and heroic troops. |
