It's war between Code Pink protesters and the pro-troops organization, Move America Forward, after the Berkeley city council declared the Marine Corps to be "unwelcome intruders".

DeMint to Berkeley: Support Our Marines or Lose Federal Funds

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) released the following statement in response to the decision by the City Council of Berkeley, California to evict the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station from the city.

“This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families. The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money. If the city can’t show respect for the Marines that have fought, bled and died for their freedom, Berkeley should not be receiving special taxpayer funded handouts. I am currently drafting legislation to ensure that American taxpayers aren’t forced to pay for this insult by rescinding all of the earmarks for Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, and to transfer the funds to the Marine Corps.”

UPDATE:

Berkeley City Councilwoman Betty Olds is now 'ASHAMED' of her vote.

The vote to award the Code Pink parking spot was 8-1, and the condemnation resolution was 6-3. On Thursday, the polarized emotions that went into those votes had not abated.

“I’m ashamed of my vote,” said Councilwoman Betty Olds, who helped approve the parking spot but not the condemnation. “The protesters should have free speech - this is where Free Speech was born, after all - but to tell the Marines they are not welcome is shameful. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t even go for the parking spot.”

The Council has been flooded with thousands of calls from all around the country, and patriots shut-down down the e-mail in angry reponse.

One down, six to go.

"I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don't belong here, they shouldn't have come here, and they should leave," said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates.

"Osama bin Laden couldn't have said it better," American Legion National Commander Marty Conatser said of the Berkeley City Council Resolution, which tells the Marines that they are not welcome there. "Disgraceful, disloyal, ungrateful. These words are too kind in describing the actions of the public officials in Berkeley, who voted for this disgrace. Nonetheless, our Marines continue to bravely serve and in so doing, allow Americans to spout such foolishness. The American Legion not only strongly condemns this action by the City Council but also believes that a sincere apology is in order to all Marines, past and present."

Mark Levin, nationally syndicated talk show host, and the smartest guy in the room, on why conservatives should now rally around Mitt Romney.

I don’t pretend to speak for President Reagan or all conservatives. I speak for myself. But I watched the Republican debate last night, which was held at the Reagan library, and I have to say that I fear a McCain candidacy. He would be an exceedingly poor choice as the Republican nominee for president.

City Calls Marines
"Unwelcome Intruders"

SAN FRANCISCO – The City of Berkeley, California, has passed two resolutions attacking the United States Marine Corps, calling the Marines "uninvited and unwelcome intruders in the city."

The Berkeley City Council voted to condemn the Marines on Tuesday night (January 29th) as part of a campaign by anti-war activists to shut down a U.S. Marine Recruiting Center located in Berkeley.

The votes by the Berkeley City Council were immediately condemned by Move America Forward (website: www.MoveAmericaForward.org), the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization.

"It is disgraceful that in the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement, anti-military activists would attempt to silence the same military men and women who serve this country and give their lives to protect the free speech rights of all Americans, including these ungrateful and despicable people on the Berkeley City Council," said Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward.

The actions by the Berkeley City Council followed continuous protests by Code Pink and other anti-military organizations who vandalized and defaced the U.S. Marine Recruiting Center in September 2007.

One of the two resolutions passed by the Berkeley City Council last night granted a parking spot in front of the Marine Recruiting Center to be used by anti-military activists to harass Marine recruiters. The anti-military activists would not need to apply for a sound permit for the next six months – allowing them free reign to disrupt the day-to-day operations by the Marines.

Move America Forward organized a counter-protest in support of the Marines last October that attracted more than 400 pro-troop supporters who stood in solidarity of the Marine Recruiting Center.

"We have hundreds of thousands of military men and women serving honorably overseas to protect our freedoms. Imagine how they feel when they go to turn on the news and see that they are being stabbed in the back by shameful people here at home, it’s disgraceful!" said Catherine Moy, Executive Director of Move America Forward.

READ MELANIE'S ENDORSEMENTS/RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CALIFORNIA'S PRIMARY VOTE NEXT TUESDAY!

President – Mitt Romney
John McCain and Rudy Giluliani must be stopped and Governor Romney is the best candidate to do that.

Proposition 91– Yes
(This more firmly dedicates gasoline sales taxes to transportation projects, instead of siphoning off to general fund for more liberal spending)

Proposition 92 – No
(This is "ballot box budgeting" at its worst.  It would irresponsibly reduce community college tuition, regardless of need, while permanently increasing taxpayer subsidies.)

Proposition 93 – No!
(This is phony term limits reform designed to keep Democrat leaders in office longer.  Whether you support term limits or hate them, this proposition is a fraud and it should be defeated. Giving Pistol Packing Don Perata more time in the Senate, as well as extending the reign of corruption plagued Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez is a BAD idea.)

Proposition 94 - No
The referendum would ratify the compact with the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Mission Indians.  Indian gaming has been terrible for California, Defeating this compact will help solve that problem.  This compact is not the best possible deal that taxpayers can get out of the current Legislature. Union thugs oppose this compact because it does not achieve their goal of forcing casino workers to pay union dues without their consent.  The issue here is union politics, lack of transparency for state inspections of slot machines that quadruple, bringing in Las Vegas style gambling and does not pay for the costs of compulsive gambling or roads needed to handle additional traffic.

Proposition 95 - No
The referendum would ratify the compact with the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. (Same reasons as above.)

Proposition 96 - No
The referendum would ratify the compact with the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. (Same reasons as above.)

Proposition 97 - No
The referendum would ratify the compact with the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.  (Same reasons as above.)
