America Responds to Delta

It has dawned on Delta that it had a huge PR nightmare when it was caught charging returning soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan excess baggage fees.

But thanks to national outrage, led by Debbie Lee, a Gold Star Mom who works with Move America Forward, the largest pro-troops grassroots organization in the country, Delta has changed its policy.

DENVER (CBS4)- Delta Airlines has changed its luggage policy regarding U.S. Servicemen and women. The policy change comes after soldiers returning from Afghanistan claim the airline charged them hundreds of dollars in extra baggage fees.

Staff Sgt. Robert O’Hair of Lochbuie is one of the soldiers expressing his displeasure with Delta Airlines. He said the response to the YouTube videos is unexpected. The soldiers said they just “wanted to vent.”

O’Hair and other members of his unit were on the final leg of their return from Afghanistan, taking a Delta flight from Baltimore to Atlanta to get back to Fort Polk, La.

Volunteers Needed to Smear Palin by WaPo
Written by Melanie Morgan
Thursday, 09 June 2011 10:43

Is it an organized witchhunt by the Washington Post to bring down Sarah Palin, or a lazy, nearly bankrupt dinosaur media that has to recruit volunteers to do it's dirty work?

You pick. I'm torn.

"....More than 24,000 e-mail messages sent to and from Sarah Palin during her tenure as Alaska's governor will be released Friday. Join The Post in digging through them. We are looking for 100 organized and diligent readers who will work alongside Post reporters to analyze, contextualize, and research the e-mails. Think of it as spending some time in our newsroom.

Our hope is that working together, we can efficiently find interesting information and extract new stories that will lead to further investigation. We don’t know what we’ll find, but we want you to be ready and open for the chall

You will communicate with us virtually and work in small teams to make light work of reviewing the e-mail threads. Notice the patterns. Identify recipients and senders. Connect specific e-mails to larger themes and events. We’ll give you a sense of what to look out for, but the hope is that your team can tackle the challenge together in a collaborative way that our journalists alone cannot. And in fact, we are selecting just 100 people because we want to make real use of your talents and trust you to use teamwork to your advantage."

Nine Things to Know About Andrew Breitbart
Written by Melanie Morgan
Wednesday, 08 June 2011 07:52

The Hollywood Reporter is out with a piece today about the so-called obscurity of Andrew Breitbart, and how he has become super famous now because his websites broke the story of Anthony Weiner's weiner pictures.

Nice try.

But Andrew was famous way before that story. And beloved.

He is renowned for his over-the-top support of our military, as well as his huge heart, relentless pursuit of conservative causes and journalistic truth.

Andrew is my co-host of Troopathon 2011 this June 23rd to raise money to send the single largest shipment of care packages to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in American history.  He doesn't get paid a dime. He has done this for three years because he can help, and he makes a huge difference. Compare his lifestory to Tony Weiner, who cheated his way into his first elected office, and cheated in cyberspace on his wife and lied to everyone else. And Weiner attacked him?! His liberal enablers hate Andrew?! Phooey!

"...Not that Rep. Anthony Weiner needed help humiliating himself, given his now-revealed penchant for sending women lurid tweets and emails, but the other man most responsible for the mess Weiner has gotten himself into is Andrew Breitbart, who revealed a week ago the infamous photo that Weiner inadvertently tweeted to a college co-ed. Here are 9 other things Hollywood should know about Breitbart, a new-media maven few people had heard of until recently:

VIDEO: Andrew Breitbart Hijacks Rep. Anthony Weiner's Cable News Briefing

1. His father-in-law is actor Orson Bean, who was blacklisted in the 1950s as a suspected Communist, and his stepmother-in-law is actress Alley Mills, best known for her role as the mom on The Wonder Years.

2. He was a liberal until 1991, when he says he had an “epiphany” while watching on C-Span the Clarence Thomas U.S. Supreme Court confirmation hearings, which focused on accusations of sexual harassment. He told "Townhall" magazine: “By the end of the hearings, I was screaming at my TV, ‘How can you do this to this man?’”

3. He worked for E! Entertainment Television before becoming “Matt Drudge’s bitch” (his words) as editor of the Drudge Report. He also helped launch The Huffington Post before creating Big Hollywood, a blog for conservatives working in Hollywood. (“Big” is a reference to the media’s sinister habit of referring to “Big Oil” and “Big Tobacco”). He has since launched Big Journalism, Big Government and Big Peace.

4. Before penning his current bestseller, “Righteous Indignation: Excuse Me While I Save the World,” Breitbart co-authored with Mark Ebner “Hollywood, Interrupted: Insanity Chic in Babylon,” a book that rips the behavior of numerous celebrities.

5. Married with four children, Breitbart is on the advisory board of GOProud, an organization of gay Republicans, and is a staple at Tea Party rallies, where he sometimes introduces Sarah Palin.

6. Breitbart launched Big Government by posting videotape of conservative activists Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe posing as a prostitute and pimp seeking financial assistance from ACORN, a liberal community organizing group that once engaged Barack Obama as its attorney. The videos led to Congress de-funding ACORN, quickly leading to its demise.

7. After members of the Black Congressional Caucus claimed they were called the N-word at a Tea Party rally, Breitbart offered to donate $100,000 to the United Negro Fund for any audio or video footage that proved the allegation. No such footage has surfaced.

8. Breitbart posted a portion of a speech that got Shirley Sherrod fired at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Sherrod, speaking to the NAACP, said she didn’t want to help a farmer because he was white. Further into the speech, though, she makes it clear that she did help him. Breitbart endured a hailstorm of criticism for selective editing, including from fellow conservatives like Glenn Beck, though he maintains that the point of posting only the snippet was to show the positive reaction of the audience when Sherrod acknowledged her urge to discriminate against the white farmer. Sherrod has sued Breitbart for defamation.

9. Breitbart sometimes substitutes for radio talk-show hosts Dennis Miller, Michael Savage and others. He is a frequent guest on HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher and several Fox News Channel shows, especially Hannity and Red Eye w/Greg Gutfield.

She's Pregnant!

Democrat Congressman Tony Weiner refuses to leave Capitol Hill, even though it was revealed today that A) his wife Huma is three months pregnant and B) his private man-parts picture was stolen from Andrew Breitbart and Tweeted to the universe.

Yikes. This is getting weirder and weirder.

"...Rep. Anthony Weiner’s grip on his House seat grew far more tenuous Wednesday as he was hit with the release of another graphic picture purported to be of his genitals, the public revelation that his wife is pregnant and a flood of calls from prominent Democrats for him to resign.

It’s up to Weiner to decide whether he’ll ride out a scandal that grows more intense, and more embarrassing, by the day. For now, Weiner is resisting the calls. “He is not resigning,” said a Democratic insider who spoke with him.

But pressure is steadily building from within Democratic ranks for him to call it quits and end the saga of the first Twitter-made political sex scandal.

The Dirty Trick that Fired Up Weiner's Career
Written by Steve Kornacki
Wednesday, 08 June 2011 07:10

You can certainly make a compelling case that Anthony Weiner should not have to give up his seat in Congress or his career in elected politics because of the online photo scandal that has engulfed him this week.

But if this does end up being the end for Weiner's public career, it might not be quite the injustice it seems like -- at least if you know how his career began.
