Advocating on Behalf of the American Military and Defense on the War on Terror

Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King questioned President Barack Obama’s decision to allow his daughters Sasha and Malia to vacation in the Bahamas for spring break this week during a Wednesday radio appearance.

King said that the president allowing Sasha and Malia to vacation in a luxurious Bahamian resort, Atlantis, is “the wrong image to be coming out of the White House,” especially when the administration is trying to make sequestration painful for ordinary Americans. Breitbart News broke the original story on Monday.

A caller who identified herself as Carla asked King:

I have a couple of things to say. First of all, my son is a Marine. He’s in TBS, Training Basic School for officers, and they have a celebration at the end of their graduation where the families can come and celebrate their success and kind of experience what they’ve been doing. Part of that is called "Warrior Day," where the families can come and they can either run the gauntlet or the endurance course, you know, eat the food, there’s tours and it’s kind of a party atmosphere. That has been cancelled, completely cancelled, wiped off, because of sequestration, which I could understand especially if they’re counting bullets but nonetheless, when I see the First Lady [sic] and the beautiful girls going off to the Bahamas waving goodbye to us, it’s really hard to stomach. When we’re tightening our belts, either all of us should do it or none of us should do it. This, I am pretty tolerant, I always have been, I usually shut my mouth. This is not acceptable.

King responded:

Carla, you’re on point and on the mark all the way through. We have some intense, especially interior, debates on how we’re going to get some resources back into the Defense side of this. In the end, whatever minor changes we’re able to make didn’t affect this in that way. You’re right on the president. He needs to show some austerity himself. Instead he seemed to want to tell America how bad it was going to be. There was a memo that was leaked out of the USDA that essentially came from the White House and essentially said this: "Do not let the pain of sequestration be less than that that is predicted by the president." And so, we’ve got the president doing these things. He sent the daughters [sic - one daughter] to spring break in Mexico a year ago. That was at our expense, too. And now to the Bahamas at one of the most expensive places there.

Failure to foreclose holds back real estate rebound

Policies to protect struggling homeowners from foreclosure in the District of Columbia, Maryland and other jurisdictions have offered “fool’s gold,” in the words of one top analyst, and they are holding back a real estate rebound, even as the U.S. housing market begins to roar, or at least growl, across the country.

American schools suffer from constantly growing administrative  bloat and an institutional culture that prioritizes research over teaching, two  new studies have found.

In the last 20 years, the number of K-12 administrators has  increased 2.3 times faster than the number of students in school, according  to the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice.  Teacher employment also outpaced student growth,  though not as rapidly as the administrator count did.

Over a longer period of time, the trend is even more pronounced.  Administrative positions at K-12 schools increased by 700 percent since 1950 —  seven times faster than the growth of student enrollment.

“The increases in public school employment since 1992 do not appear  to have had any positive returns to students as measured  by test scores and graduation rates,” wrote Benjamin Scafidi, a senior fellow at  the Friedman Foundation and associate professor at Georgia College & State  University.

Evidence that such an employment surge positively impacted student  achievement is scant, said Scafidi.

“The burden of proof is now on those who still want to maintain or  even increase the dramatically larger staffing levels in public schools,” he  wrote.

Similar problems afflict higher education, studies have shown.

“America’s universities have been taken over by a burgeoning class  of administrators and staffers determined to transform colleges into  top-heavy organizations run by inept bureaucrats,” wrote Benjamin Ginsberg, professor of  political science at John Hopkins University and author of the book “The Fall of the Faculty: The Rise of the All-Administrative  University and Why It Matters.”

What do high school dropouts, convicted felons and union apprentices have in  common?

They’re all “disadvantaged” workers who — alongside veterans, former foster  children and single parents — must account for at least 10 percent of the labor  force behind California’s $68 billion high-speed rail project. By 2029, the  state’s High-Speed Rail Authority hopes to send commuters hurtling at 200 mph  between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The 800-mile system with up to 24  stations will eventually extend to Sacramento and San Diego, but some critics —  and even former proponents of the megaproject — are now questioning its  viability.

Randal O'Toole, a senior fellow at Cato Institute, a Washington-based think  tank, said his biggest concern is not the unconventional workforce demand, but  that the electrically-powered train system is really a "political project" aimed  at fattening the wallets of well-connected unions, contractors, engineers and  associated firms.

"There's a lot of money to be made out of building this and the whole goal of  high-speed rail is to make that money, to transfer money from taxpayers into the  pockets of selected supporters of the Obama administration," O'Toole told "It always comes back to politics."

The White House may be locked up due to the sequester cuts but that didn’t stop the Obama administration from spending $350 million on sexual indoctrination of children.

Here’s one of the ads from the federally funded Personal Responsibility Education Program. too skinny jean

Life News reported, via Free Republic:

While the White House says sequestration has eliminated funds for children touring the White House, President Obama has no problem spending $350 million federal tax dollars for sexual indoctrination programs starting in kindergarten for those same children.

This is not your grandmother’s sex education about how things work and what can go “wrong.” In fact, the exact opposite is the essence of the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP): Obamacare funnels $75 million annually into PREP, which must be used exclusively for Planned Parenthood-style “comprehensive” sex ed programs where no type of sex is wrong and the only sexual behavior PP considers “unsafe” is becoming pregnant.

More than one-fourth of the funds ‒ $20 million ‒ has been awarded to a coalition of six Planned Parenthood affiliates, operating under the name Northwest Coalition for Adolescent Health, to implement HHS’s TOP program across Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, and Alaska at over 50 sites. In Oregon schools, Planned Parenthood is paying children cash incentives to participate.

PP is funded with our tax dollars to market sex to our children in our schools under the guise of sex education, anti-bullying, diversity, and tolerance. Once sexualized, those children then become PP sex customers for contraceptives, STD testing, and abortion.

Actress Ashley Judd announced Wednesday she won't run for U.S. Senate in  Kentucky against Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, saying she had given serious  thought to a campaign but decided her responsibilities and energy need to be  focused on her family.

The former Kentucky resident tweeted her decision.

"Regretfully, I am currently unable to consider a campaign for the Senate. I  have spoken to so many Kentuckians over these last few months who expressed  their desire for a fighter for the people & new leader," Judd wrote.

"While that won't be me at this time, I will continue to work as hard as I  can to ensure the needs of Kentucky families are met by returning this Senate  seat to whom it rightfully belongs: the people & their needs, dreams, and  great potential. Thanks for even considering me as that person & know how  much I love our Commonwealth. Thank you!"

Her publicist Cara Tripicchio confirmed Judd's decision.

A BLOOMIN’ IDIOT:  There he goes again.  On the 10th anniversary of the NYC’s restaurant/bar smoking ban, Mayor/Supreme Nanny Michael Bloomberg nonchalantly tells the press “We interfere with free enterprise all the time.“    The “we” to which he refers is, of course, the royal “we,” which allows him to dictate to his constituents what they can eat, drink and otherwise consume whenever he believes they lack the self control and intelligence to decide for themselves.

Despite President Obama’s best efforts to exploit the tragic shooting  at Sandy Hook Elementary School for his political agenda, the public is  starting to see through his maneuver.  Polls show that the support for  Mr. Obama’s gun-control wishlist is falling.

NRA's new beat: Meet the young guns

(CNN) - The National Rifle Association introduced new "commentators" for its news website, where a trio of young adult gun owners aim to debunk what they consider common myths and misunderstandings about firearms.

In a highly-produced video segment released Monday on NRA News and perhaps aimed to break stereotypes of gun owners, the organization showcases a blogger who writes about guns for women, a former Navy SEAL, and an "urban gun enthusiast." FULL POST

Christie, often touted as a potential 2016 candidate, is up for reelection in  November. | AP Phot

Good news for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — being an overweight candidate  in the Garden State won’t tip the scale in his opponent’s favor.

A hefty 64 percent of voters in the state are comfortable with an overweight  candidate, while just 17 percent have some reservations, according to a  Quinnipiac University Polling Institute released Tuesday.

Christie — often touted as a potential GOP presidential  candidate in 2016 — is up for reelection in November against likely Democratic  opponent state Sen. Barbara Buono.

Earlier this year, Christie told ex-White House doctor Connie Mariano to “shut up” after  she said on CNN that she wants him to run for president — but first to lose  weight because he could have a heart attack or stroke while in office.

The poll also found that Christie still has an astronomical approval rating  of 70 percent, with a 23 percent disapproval.

Pollsters surveyed 1,129 registered voters from March 19 to March 24 and it  has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

A woman who spent $6,055 on breast implants told of her agony when the  implant fell out of her chest.

Lauren Yardley, 25, had her breasts boosted from an A cup to a DD.

But two months after the operation, she noticed her right breast was bigger  than her left, and it felt hard and uncomfortable.Doctors found her body had  rejected the implant and performed the surgery again.

Yet two months later, the tissue around the implant tightened – pushing the  pad out of Yardley’s body through the stitches underneath her breast.

The nurse was told doctors could not reinsert the implant because her body  needed time to heal – effectively leaving her with one small and one big breast  for six months.

Yardley, from Coventry, was forced to use chicken fillets in her bra to even  out the size until surgeons eventually reinserted the implant into her  breast.

And she has now warned other women to be wary of possible side effects of the  surgery, saying: “I couldn’t believe it when the implant started coming out of  my breast. The doctors at the hospital said they had never seen anything like it  — they couldn’t believe I was not in septic shock."

  • Condom

Philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates is offering start-up funds of  $100,000 to anyone who can come up with the “next-generation condom,” according  to Grand Challenges in Global Health.

The Round 11 of Grand Challenges Explorations initiative through the Bill and  Melinda Gates Foundation is aimed at improving the lives of the world’s poorest  people – and a new, innovative condom could do just that.

The condom must be effective at lowering the chance of transmitting sexually  transmitted diseases, and offer incentive for men and women to use it.

If chosen, the Foundation would continue to fund the condom up to $1  million.

“To overcome persistent health and development problems, we need new,  game-changing ideas,” Chris Wilson, director of Global Health Discovery &  Translational Science at the Foundation, said in a press release.   “Inspiration can come from anywhere, and we are hopeful that this new  round of Grand Challenges Explorations will uncover innovative approaches to  improve lives around the world.”

According to the press release, the new condom will “preserve or enhance the  pleasure so as to increase uptake and also promote its regular use.”

The proposals must have a “testable hypothesis . . . an associated plan for  how the idea would be validated . . . and would yield . . .an unambiguous data  plan in Phase I, to be considered for Phase II.”

Of course, the condom should also be easy to use and include ground-breaking  design.

I am CRAZY about monkey's and apparently I'm not the only one.

In a recent article I introduced the concept of monkey helpers in passing. We've surely all heard of these glorious simian servants before -- one appeared in an episode of The Simpsons and the movie Monkey Shines depicted the lighter side of the hijinks a helper monkey can get into. But is a helper monkey all it's cracked up to be? Hey, I just said the name of the website! Heh.

In order to evaluate the awesomeness of a monkey helper, I did the only rational thing -- I acquired a helper monkey. Which is to say I sent an email and was told no, I cannot have a helper monkey because look how not disabled I am. Elitist monkey pimps.

Lucky for me the Internet is awash in anecdotal evidence and complete fiction, from which I can draw conclusions about why you should or should not get a monkey helper. Please ignore the part where you should be a quadriplegic to qualify for one. I mean, realistically, you'll never get one unless you need one, but this is more a beautiful fantasy than anything else. I want a monkey is what I'm saying.

Pro: Awesome Personal Chef

Service monkeys, as the pros call them, are trained to do some pretty elaborate tasks around the house, including microwaving food. Now, you have your Bobby Flays out in the world, who can take a beet, a steak, a shoe, and some Mrs. Dash and make a gourmet feast. But if you put that head to head against a monkey with a can of Beefaroni and a microwave, and you don't choose the monkey, then you're the most lavish and indulgent human being on Earth, clearly no longer bound by simple pleasures and living a Caligula-like decadent fantasy of excess and depravity than even the modest microwave-operating hands of a tiny monkey cannot hope to manipulate in any way.

A monkey cooking you dinner is like being hugged by Sasquatch or a talking parrot rattling off an entire, unheard standup comedy routine for you every time you come home from work. It's phenomenal in every way. Plus they feed you after they cook it, which is typically the kind of shit only people who have Roman emperor fantasies get to experience, so you're still Caligula! Put that steak down and kick Bobby Flay's ass out. Or invite him over to give the monkey lessons.

As great as it would be to watch a monkey make you some Hot Pockets, you need to be aware of the nature of monkey. And even though people spend $38,000 and years to train these monkeys, you can take the monkey out of the jungle but you can't take the jungle out of the monkey. And that means butt play. Monkeys are as fascinated with asses as I am, but generally they're more into their own asses than other people's. They have adorable little monkey diapers on, but who do you think puts those diapers on? The monkeys do! I mean, they have to, right?

Arguably all day long those monkeys are playing with their bungholes when they're not busy feeding you snacks and making sure you don't fall down stairs or get sucked into the vacuum. That, in turn, means easily twice as much fecal matter in your Hot Pocket as the factory allows. Plus, what's stopping him from putting those little monkey poo fingers in your mouth every time he feeds you a grape? Not you, you can't even move. All you can do is sputter shit-grape matter onto your own chest while the monkey cocks his head to one side, scoops it up in his poo hand and forces it back into your mouth. Boom, double poo.

Officials in Texas say don't worry, be happy. Say what?!

"..Officials say a vial containing a virus that can cause hemorrhagic fever has  gone missing from a research facility in Galveston, but say there's no reason to  believe there's a threat to the public.

The University of Texas Medical Branch said Saturday that there was no breach  in the security its Galveston National Laboratory and no indication of  wrongdoing. Officials suspect the missing vial containing the Guanarito virus  was destroyed during the lab's cleaning process but the investigation  continues.

The medical branch says the virus, native to Venezuela, is transmitted only  through contact with Venezuelan rats. It is not believed to be able to survive  in U.S. rodents or to be transmitted person-to-person.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was immediately notified after  the vial was discovered missing Wednesday."

The Union of French Jewish Students (UEJF) is suing Twitter for nearly $50 million after it refused to turn over the names of people who had tweeted racist and anti-semitic remarks, as ruled by a French court. The case revolves around a hashtag — #unbonjuif (“a good Jew”) — which became the third-most popular on the site in October, Ars Technica reports. The UEJF sued Twitter in order to get the international social media giant to turn over the details of allegedly racist people to comply with French hate speech laws.

Mayor Bloomberg joked at the 2013  Inner Circle dinner Saturday night. The next day, he was on “Meet the Press”  talking about guns.

The $12 million ad blitz targeting senators wavering on gun control will be  just the beginning, Mayor  Bloomberg warned Sunday.

“I have a responsibility ... to try to make this country safer,” Bloomberg  said on “Meet the Press” when asked if he’d spend big-time in next year’s  elections to target the National Rifle Association and members of Congress for  opposing gun restrictions.

“If I can do that by spending some money, and taking the NRA from being the  only voice to being one of the voices, so the public can really understand the  issues, then I think my money will be well spent and I think I have an  obligation to do that,” he said.

“If 90% of the public wants something, and their representatives vote against  that, common sense says they are going to have a price to pay for that,”  Bloomberg said, referring to the proportion of people polls show support  universal background checks.

Bloomberg launched the ad campaign, which will start airing Monday, in a  dozen states where Bloomberg believes key senators can be swayed. The ad  features a rifle-toting hunter making the case for background checks

CA welfare state wants more ‘clients’

poverty_jpg_475x310_q85The Employment Development Department used to be called the “Unemployment Department.” And state welfare recipients are now “clients.”

The majority party in the California Legislature appears determined on expanding social services in the state despite evidence demonstrating that the programs don’t necessarily improve lives, as the very mixed record of the 50-year federal “War on Poverty” confirms. While discussing the need for “safety net” programs for the poorest in the state, legislators always cast a wider net than necessary.

The Assembly held a committee hearing Wednesday about expanding mandatory universal government preschool in California. By Thursday, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee was focused on the CalWORKS program, and how to attract more “clients.” Expansion of the state’s Health and Human Services agency is an obvious goal.

CA has nation’s worst poverty rate

This push to expand government aid programs has as a backdrop California’s poverty rate of 23.5 percent — the highest in the nation and much higher than the national average of 16.1 percent. The U.S. Census Bureau said the high poverty rate was driven in part by California’s high cost of living, which is never a focus of the Legislature.

March 21, 2013: Health workers lower dead pigs into a processing pit, where  the carcasses will be fermented into organic fertilizers, at a hog farm in Zhuji  city, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province. (AP)

The number of dead pigs  recovered in the last two weeks from rivers that supply water to Shanghai has  risen to more than 16,000.

The government in China's financial hub said Thursday that 10,570 carcasses  have been pulled from its Huangpu river. That is in addition to 5,528 pigs  plucked from upstream tributaries in the Jiaxing area of Zhejiang province.

Authorities give daily updates assuring the public that tests show Shanghai's  water is safe, but no official has given any full explanation about the massive  dumping of pig carcasses.

Hog farmers have told state media that the dumping of swine carcasses is  rising because police have started cracking down on the illicit sale of pork  products made from dead, diseased pigs.

The state-controlled Southern Weekly newspaper, citing court documents, said  three men were sentenced to life prison in Jiaxing last November for procuring  dead pigs to sell their meat. It says the men and their group purchased and  slaughtered 77,000 dead pigs in a period of more than two years.

Local officials also told Southern Weekly that the city lacks enough  facilities to properly dispose of dead pigs. Hog farming is a major business in  Jiaxing.

UNDERFUNDED / OVERGENEROUS PUBLIC PENSION UPDATE:  California Teacher pension problems catch lawmakers’ attention.  “The teachers pension fund had an unfunded liability of $73 billion as of June 2012, an increase from $64.5 billion the year before.”

The U.S. government is expanding a cybersecurity program that scans Internet traffic headed into and out of defense contractors to include far more of the country's private, civilian-run infrastructure.

As a result, more private sector employees than ever before, including those at big banks, utilities and key transportation companies, will have their emails and Web surfing scanned as a precaution against cyber attacks.

Under last month's White House executive order on cybersecurity, the scans will be driven by classified information provided by U.S. intelligence agencies — including data from the National Security Agency (NSA) — on new or especially serious espionage threats and other hacking attempts. U.S. spy chiefs said on March 12 that cyber attacks have supplanted terrorism as the top threat to the country.

The Department of Homeland Security will gather the secret data and pass it to a small group of telecommunication companies and cyber security providers that have employees holding security clearances, government and industry officials said. Those companies will then offer to process email and other Internet transmissions for critical infrastructure customers that choose to participate in the program.

Texas Mom Outraged After Finding Stunning Question About 9/11, Terrorism on Her Son’s 5th Grade Test

A Texas mom is furious after discovering that her son’s school is teaching students that the United States is partly to blame for the 9/11 terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people.

Kara Sands, of Corpus Christi, Texas, took to her Facebook and posted photos of the test administered by Flour Bluff Intermediate School. The test reportedly covered content in a video fifth-grade students watched in class.

Of all the questions about the 9/11 attacks, Sands was most disturbed by question three:

“Why might the United States be a target for terrorism?” The answer? “Decisions we made in the United States have had negative effects on people elsewhere.”

Texas Mom Outraged After Finding This Stunning Question About 9/11 on Her Sons Test

Unsurprisingly, the stunningly controversial lesson plan is part of the CSCOPE curriculum system that has come under fire recently. The same system includes lessons asking students to design a flag for a “new socialist nation” and dubs the Boston Tea Party as an “act of terrorism.”

“I’m not going to justify radical terrorists by saying we did anything to deserve that — over 3,000 people died,” Sands told KRIS-TV.

The irate mother immediately contacted her son’s principal and teacher and set up meetings with them. The school then reached out to the video’s distributor, Safari Montage.

“Representatives say they stand behind the video, but have already changed the corresponding quiz that may have caused confusion,” according to the report.

Another worksheet on the Bill of Rights apparently names food and medicine as “rights,” not a personal responsibility, according to Sands. She said her son’s answer was falsely marked wrong because he labeled food and medicine as the latter.

As a Texas parent, Sands said she is very concerned about what CSCOPE is teaching children. But the Flour Bluff Independent School District released a statement defending the use of CSCOPE.

Several parents are reportedly planning to bring the issue up during the next school board meeting on March 28 and Sands is encouraging more parents to get involved.

“When I teach my children that you have to work hard and you have to earn a living and they go to school and learn something different I absolutely take issue with that,” she added.

A new poll from Gallup shows that people who live in West Virginia are the saddest folks in America.

Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee scored almost as low as West Virginia in the poll, which measured self-life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health and healthy behaviors, reports the Daily Mail.

This map (pictured right) illustrates the saddest states in red.

The "well-being" poll says that there is a "sadness belt" in the South and Midwest where many residents are depressed, obese and disgruntled at work.

Ironically, these states usually vote for Republicans, who oppose health care and workers' rights.
Ohio and Indiana also performed poorly in 2012's list. Both states have high numbers of uninsured residents, but consistently vote for conservatives who oppose Obamacare.
Americans living in Hawaii, Colorado and Minnesota rate themselves as being the most healthy and happy with their lives.
"Residents of these states rate their lives much better, today and in the future and have better emotional health, including much lower clinically diagnosed depression and daily sadness,'" Gallup states.

More "happy states" include: Utah, Vermont, Montana and Nebraska, which also have lower rates of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart attacks and chronic physical pain.

Using the dead bodies of  American Marines as political fodder, Reid embarrasses himself and his Democrat colleagues with the folllowing comments.

"..Just hours after an explosion killed seven Marines in his home state, Nevada  Sen. Harry Reid used the fatal training accident as an opportunity to talk about  the potential impact of the sequester on military readiness.

The Senate Democratic leader initially took to the floor Tuesday to mourn the  deaths of the seven Marines, killed during a training exercise at Hawthorne Army  Depot in Nevada.

"My thoughts are with those who are injured and of course the families of  those who lost loved ones," Reid said.

But then, after explaining that the Marines were at the depot for training,  Reid went on to use the tragedy as a segue to talk about the importance of  canceling the automatic budget cuts known as sequester.

"It's just not appropriate, Mr. President, that our military can't train and  do the maintenance necessary," Reid said. "These men and women, our Marines,  were training there in Hawthorne and with the sequester it's going to cut this  stuff back, and I just hope everyone understands sacrifices made by our  military, they are significant."

While using the activities at the Nevada facility as an example of critical  training that would be cut, Reid did not appear to directly link the budget cuts  to the deaths.

Still, some took offense at his comments.

"I don't know how anyone could link this accident to budget cuts. Budget cuts  would never cause Marines to operate in unsafe conditions," one Marine official  told Fox News.

Reid urged Congress to pass a bill allowing the military flexibility to move  around money and spare certain parts of the budget. His office later sought  to clarify his reference to the deadly explosion.

"In the wake of the Hawthorne tragedy, Senator Reid's thoughts are with the  Marines who were killed or injured and their loved ones," spokeswoman Kristen  Orthman said. "The idea that Senator Reid thinks the Hawthorne tragedy has  anything to do with the sequester is absurd and unsubstantiated by his remarks  on the topic. Marines would not be forced to operate under unsafe conditions due  to budget cuts."

A senior Pentagon official adds: "Reid didn't directly tie sequestration and  the tragedy at Hawthorne. He made a general point about how training and  readiness will suffer if sequestration isn't lifted."

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by the Marines. But  military officials confirm that a 60-millimeter mortar round exploded  prematurely inside its tube at about 10 p.m. local time Monday. This was a  nighttime live fire exercise carried out at an Army ammunition depot.

Seven Marines from North Carolina's Camp Lejeune from the 2nd Marine Division  were killed -- three of them immediately.

The others died while waiting to be transported to nearby hospitals. Some of  the wounded were taken to Reno.

The Hawthorne Army Depot has been used since 1930. It is 230 square miles and  has nearly 3,000 buildings"

It’s not exactly news that China is setting itself up as a new global superpower, is it? While Western civilization chokes on its own gluttony like a latter-day Marlon Brando, China continues to buy up American debt and lock away the world’s natural resources. But now, not content to simply laugh and make jerk-off signs as they pass us on the geopolitical highway, they’ve also developed a state-endorsed genetic-engineering project.

At BGI Shenzhen, scientists have collected DNA samples from 2,000 of the world’s smartest people and are sequencing their entire genomes in an attempt to identify the alleles which determine human intelligence. Apparently they’re not far from finding them, and when they do, embryo screening will allow parents to pick their brightest zygote and potentially bump up every generation's intelligence by five to 15 IQ points. Within a couple of generations, competing with the Chinese on an intellectual level will be like challenging Lena Dunham to a getting-naked-on-TV contest.

Geoffrey Miller, an evolutionary psychologist and lecturer at NYU, is one of the 2,000 braniacs who contributed their DNA. I spoke to him about what this creepy-ass program might mean for the future of Chinese kids.

VICE: Hey, Geoffrey. Does China have a history of eugenics? Geoffrey Miller: As soon as Deng Xiaoping took power in the late 70s, he took the whole focus of the Chinese government from trying to manage the economy, to trying to manage the quality and quantity of people. In the 90s, they started to do widespread prenatal testing for birth defects with ultrasound, and more recently, they've spent a lot of money researching human genetics to figure out which genes make people smarter.

What do you know about BGI Shenzhen? It’s the biggest genetic research center in China, and I think the biggest in the world, by a considerable margin. They’re not just doing human genetics; BGI is also doing lots of plant genetics, animal genetics, anything that’s economically relevant or scientifically interesting.

Are you in touch with them? I just got an email a couple of days ago saying that they’d almost finished doing the sequencing for the BGI Cognitive Genetics Project, the one I gave my genetics to, and that the results would be available soon.

What was their selection process? They seem mostly interested in people of Chinese and European descent. They’re basically recruiting through a scientific conference, through word of mouth. You have to provide some evidence that you’re as smart as you say you are. You have to send your complete CV, publications you’ve produced, standardized-test scores, where you went to college... stuff like that.

How will the research be applied? Once you’ve got that information and a fertilized egg that’s divided into a few cells, you can sample one of the cells to figure out the expected intelligence if it’s implanted and becomes a person.

What does that mean in human language? Any given couple could potentially have several eggs fertilized in the lab with the dad’s sperm and the mom’s eggs. Then you can test multiple embryos and analyze which one’s going to be the smartest. That kid would belong to that couple as if they had it naturally, but it would be the smartest a couple would be able to produce if they had 100 kids. It’s not genetic engineering or adding new genes, it’s the genes that couples already have.

And over the course of several generations you’re able to exponentially multiply the population’s intelligence. Right. Even if it only boosts the average kid by five IQ points, that’s a huge difference in terms of economic productivity, the competitiveness of the country, how many patents they get, how their businesses are run, and how innovative their economy is.

Could it develop into something more sinister? That same research does open up the door potentially to genetic engineering in the future. But that would take a lot longer to make practical.

When do you think the embryo analysis might be implemented on a large scale? Actual use of the technology to do embryo screening might take five to ten years, but it could be just a few years. It depends on how motivated they are.

Could this whole process be repeated with other characteristics, like physical appearance? Absolutely. In fact, almost any trait other than intelligence would be easier to do. We know that intelligence depends on lots of genes while physical traits—like hair or eye color—only depend on a few genes. Things like body shape would be easier to do, physical attractiveness would be pretty complicated, personality traits might be a little simpler than intelligence—how hard working somebody is, how impulsive, how politically liberal or conservative they are would be easier. How religious you are—that’s definitely influenced by genes to some degree.

Shit. How does Western research in genetics compare to China’s? We’re pretty far behind. We have the same technical capabilities, the same statistical capabilities to analyze the data, but they’re collecting the data on a much larger scale and seem to be capable of transforming the scientific findings into government policy and consumer genetic testing much more easily than we are. Technically and scientifically we could be doing this, but we’re not.

Why not? We have ideological biases that say, “Well, this could be troubling, we shouldn’t be meddling with nature, we shouldn’t be meddling with God.” I just attended a debate in New York a few weeks ago about whether or not we should outlaw genetic engineering in babies and the audience was pretty split. In China, 95 percent of an audience would say, “Obviously you should make babies genetically healthier, happier, and brighter!” There’s a big cultural difference.

What else is China doing that we aren’t? Well, they’re also investing a huge amount of money in education, they’re creating new systems of universities that emphasise more creative approaches to learning, and they’re sending hundreds of thousands of college students to America and Europe to see how our education systems operate so they can bring their own systems up to our standards and above.

A New York University student has cooked up a magic gel, which he says can  stop even heavy bleeding — an invention that could make routine bandages  obsolete.

Joe Landolina, 20, a NYU junior, says his Veti-Gel almost instantly closes  and begins healing even major wounds to internal organs and key arteries.

“There’s really no way to quickly stop bleeding except to hold lots of gauze  on a wound,” Landolina told The Post. “I thought if you could pour this  gel into a wound, it would solidify and stop the bleeding.”

Landolina created the substance with Isaac Miller, a 2013 NYU grad.

The lifesaving goo is an artificial version of something called the  extracellular matrix, which makes up the connective tissue that helps hold  animal bodies together.

“We use plant-derived versions of the polymers that make up your skin,” the  whiz kid said. “If they go into a wound, they build on existing polymers. It’s  like it tells your body to stop bleeding.”

The aspiring scientist says he tested the stuff on rats and was able to stop  bleeding instantly after slicing the rodents’ livers and carotid arteries.

After his rat experiments, Landolina moved on — to a slab of fresh pork loin — to create a video demonstration.

Click here to watch the video.

On the video, he cuts a deep slice into the pork while it’s being injected  with “real pigs blood,” he said.

The blood initially flows freely, but amazingly stops after Landolina applies  the gel and a second liquid, which speeds coagulation, bringing the bloodshed to  a sudden stop.

Landolina and Miller will next test the gel on larger living animals, like  pigs and sheep, under the supervision of Dr. Herbert Dardik, a cardiovascular  surgeon at Englewood (NJ) Hospital.

Shortly after the November election, I joked that maybe Republicans should all switch parties en masse just to confuse everybody. The media wouldn’t know whom to attack, other Democrats wouldn’t know whom to smear, and maybe the public would vote on ideas instead of party ID and other factors.

Unexpectedly, a new Hill poll backs up the soundness of the old switcheroo.

Respondents in The Hill Poll were asked to choose which of two approaches they would prefer on the budget, but the question’s phrasing included no cues as to which party advocated for which option.

Presented in that way, 55 percent of likely voters opted for a plan that would slash $5 trillion in government spending, provide for no additional tax revenue and balance the budget within 10 years — in essence, the path recommended by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) last week.

This was almost twice as many voters as opted for a proposal that would include $1 trillion in added tax revenue as well as $100 billion in infrastructure spending, and which would reduce the deficit without eradicating it.

Only 28 percent of voters preferred this option, which reflects the proposal put forth by Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) last week.

So, Paul Ryan for the win? Eh, not really. The same poll found that once voters were told which party supported which idea, the voters pulled the old switcheroo and backed the Democrats.

A plurality of voters, 35 percent, said they trust the Democrats more on budgetary issues, while 30 percent said they trust the Republicans more. A full 34 percent said they trust neither party.

The poll’s finding badly undercuts President Obama’s repeated claim that the American people are on his side in the budget standoffs. They’re not. They’re not on the side of his tax hikes or his increased spending. They’re not on the side of increasing the welfare state. You can still get a majority of Americans to recognize economic reality, which is welcome news.

But most voters are also not on the GOP’s side. As soon as they think they are on the GOP’s side, they run to the Democrats or declare themselves independent. That’s reflective of a party with a bad image problem that would have trouble selling anything.

The question is, what to do?

Much more on the next page.

Geez Criminy - is there NOTHING this administration won't do for political gain?

The top U.S. immigration enforcement official acknowledged Thursday that the  Obama administration has in fact released thousands of illegal immigrants from  local jails over the last month despite prior claims that the release was only  in the hundreds.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton, at a House  appropriations subcommittee hearing, said the agency released a total of 2,228  illegal immigrants from local jails "throughout the country" between Feb. 9 and  March 1 for "solely budgetary reasons."

For the first time, he explained the kinds of detainees that were sprung from  local jails -- he said they included detainees held on theft charges, financial  criminals and drunken drivers.

Nestled among the lofty rhetoric of “hope and change,” Barack Obama made a core promise during the 2008 campaign that he would put an end to the corporate cronyism that has long pervaded the political system. “The days of sweetheart deals for Halliburton will be over when I’m in the White House," he proclaimed.

What President Obama left out however, was that the days of sweetheart deals for his cronies had only just begun–with his chief corporate advocate, Google, quickly emerging as the Halliburton of his administration. Fortunately, Attorney General Greg Abbott has taken a firm stand on behalf of the citizens of Texas to hold the Internet giant accountable.

Though Google recently faced serious federal antitrust charges that might have broken up other companies, it emerged virtually unscathed just two months after President Obama won re-election with significant financial and creative assistance from the company and its executives.

Under Abbott’s leadership, Texas was the first state to step up when the Federal Trade Commission failed to do its job at the national level. The failure to hold Google accountable to federal laws and regulations enforced on competitors has made the Texas-led probe all the more critical. After investigating Google’s practices for nearly 3 years, Abbott spearheaded a five state probe into the company’s practices, with California, Ohio, New York, and Oklahoma following Texas’ lead.

An investigation by the FTC found that Google illegally manipulated search results to favor its own products, scraping content from other websites without any provision allowing those with objections to opt-out, and imposing restrictions that prevent portability of search advertising campaigns across AdWords and other platforms.

While the company was under investigation, however, they contributed $25,000 to honor the FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz. Unfortunately this is not the first time Google donated money to recognize top regulators while in the midst of a government investigation. According to a recent Bloomberg report, in October 2011, Google spent $80,000 to honor Federal Communication Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski and Commissioner Michael Copps, despite an ongoing investigation into Google’s Street View product.

The result of Google’s questionable lobbying efforts: the Internet giant walked away from the federal case with a non-binding "handshake" agreement in which it says it will make minor changes to some of its search functions.   Moreover, there is no way for the FTC or any other agency to enforce the terms of the agreement should Google decide not to comply. When the federal government refuses to step in and stop cronyism, it’s up to the states to blow the whistle.

Abbot argues that Google is withholding thousands of documents in two civil investigation demands. Though the company promised to comply during the general investigation, they later refused to provide the requested documents. Google argues they are justified in keeping the requested 14,500 internal documents under wraps, citing attorney-client privilege.

Google, and particularly its Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, has a strong, time-tested relationship with President Obama that is too close for comfort. Google’s greatest contribution to Obama, however, was specially-designed technology, not yet available to the public, which allowed Obama to connect with voters in ways his opponents could not.

But Google’s cronyism isn’t just a red state or blue state issue. Although Texas has twice voted against Obama, two of the other states launching probes—California and New York—both have Democratic Attorney Generals and voted to re-elect the President by overwhelming margins last November.

Regardless of how people feel about antitrust laws, the hallmark of corruption is to selectively enforce laws in a way that harms your opponents and accommodates your allies. In this case, an administration that has been aggressive onantitrust enforcement when, for instance, spiking the AT&T and T-Mobile merger, took no enforceable action against Google even after finding wrongdoing. It’s no surprise that that the European Union continues to investigate Google as well.

Some people like Google, hate regulators, and therefore look favorably on the company’s string of free passes. But Google opposes big government only when it restricts Google, and the Obama administration has no commitment to regulatory restraint.  Google should play by the same rules as everyone else.

PAPER NIGHTMARE! 20,000 Pages of Federal Regulations Create Obamacare Tower (Photo)

In South Africa – Gun Registration Has Led to Gun Confiscation in Two Short Years

Over the last decade, it is estimated that at least 3000 white South African farmers, or Boers, have been have been murdered. kill-the-boer-kill-the-farmer

In 2010 the ruling ANC regime passed legislation demanding all firearms be re-registered with the state.  Then they turned down half of those registrations and forced farmers to turn in their guns.  Many believe this is a prelude to genocide. Front Page Magazine reported:

Like so many societies where demonstrating who’s in control becomes a necessity, disarming the population becomes a priority. In 2010, the ANC-led regime changed the Firearms Registration Act, demanding that all legal guns be re-registered by July 31, 2011. In the process of re-registration, more than half the applicants were turned down, and 90 percent were turned down again on appeal. Thus, white farm families were forced to relinquish their last line of defense against the tens of thousands of criminal gangs roaming the countryside–armed with AK47s. and as Genocide Watch noted on its website last July one more step was taken as well. “The government has disbanded the commando units of white farmers that once protected their farms, and has passed laws to confiscate the farmers’ weapons,” it reported. “Disarmament of a targeted group is one of the surest early warning signs of future genocidal killings.”

“BOOM,” says the latest McClatchy-Marist poll:

If President Barack Obama had piled up political capital with his impressive re-election, it’s largely gone.

His approval rating has dropped to the lowest level in more than a year, with more voters now turning thumbs down on his performance than thumbs up, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll. The measure of how much people like him also has dropped.

He’s still vastly more popular than Congress, particularly congressional Republicans. But in the biggest political clash of the year – over the federal budget and how to curb deficits – voters split 44 percent to 42 percent between preferring Congress or Obama.

At least some of the president’s fall to Earth lies in the fact that voters no longer see him in the context of an election. He has to stand alone in the eyes of voters again and doesn’t benefit from the comparison with Republican rival Mitt Romney.

The numbers: 45 percent of voters approve of the way he’s handling his job, 48 percent disapprove. Steven Thomma of McClatchy puts those numbers in context: “That was down from a 50 percent approval rating in November and December, and the lowest since November 2011. It also was the first time that more people disapproved of his work than approved since November 2011, when his rating was 43-50. Obama’s personal popularity also has declined, with 48 percent of voters having favorable impressions of him and 48 percent having unfavorable impressions. That was down from 53-44 in December. It also was the lowest since November 2011, when it was 47-49.”

Here's a big, fat juicy "I-told-you-so."

"..The fight over Obamacare, so far held at the 30,000-foot level, is about to hit home. The latest impact hot off the grill: prices of burgers and hot dogs at Five Guys, the national chain that started in Washington, are going to rise to cover the president's mandated insurance coverage.

"Any added costs are going to have to be passed on," said Mike Ruffer, a Five Guys franchise holder with eight of the popular restaurants in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C. area. He will need all the profits from at least one of his eight outlets just to cover his estimated added $60,000-a year in new Obamacare costs.

What's more, he's iced plans to build another three restaurants until after the administration explains the exact rules and penalties employers will face. The law's plan to have those available March 1 has been pushed back to October."

Please excuse my absence for the next few days. My younger sister has had a stroke and is hospitalized in critical condition. All prayers for Michellle would be greatly appreciated.

A new poll shows that most Californians are downright gloomy about the state’s economy and very few voters think the job market will improve this year.

The Field Poll released Friday found that 72 percent of California voters say the state is still experiencing bad times. While the figure is down from 88 percent last year, it’s the sixth consecutive year where pessimism runs high.

Six in 10 voters described the state’s unemployment situation as very serious and only one out of three say job opportunities will improve this year.

Another win for Mitt. Tea Party Senator Marco Rubio endorsed Mitt Romney in an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity. Rubio said that Romney is a "very clear alternative" to Obama's plan for the country. As for the current Republican race, the first-term senator said that it's a "recipe for delivery four more years of Obama." Saying that Romney's earned it, Rubio still didn't say whether he'd be on Romney's ticket. Rubio will be the biggest get for Romney since Jeb Bush threw in his hat for the former governor earlier this month. Rubio continued to deny that he has any interest in being vice president.

My favorite Vice-President ever is in the hospital.

Dick Cheney, the man who helped to keep us safe during the turbulent years of the Bush administration, has recieved a heart transplant.

The mainstream media is trying DESPERATELY to insinuate that he skipped  to the head of the transplant line.

But somehow, those stubborn things called facts, keep getting in the way.

At a $35,800 per person fundraiser in Atlanta, held at a French chateau-style mansion, President Obama talked about human-induced climate change:

“It gets you a little nervous about what is happening to global temperatures. When it is 75 degrees in Chicago in the beginning of March, you start thinking.”

Now, a little bit about the carbon footprint of the home of Tyler Perry, in which the president was a guest.

According to the pool reporter covering the event:

“The three story home complete with wooden shutters, that would have looked at home in the Loire Valley, was reached by a wide marble staircase leading up to the front door, inside which was a large crystal chandelier. The pool spotted a cozy looking library with antique volumes on the shelves as we were taken up two flights of stairs into a games room area, complete with a pub-style bar, pool table, antique chess set and large antique telescope.”

The hypocrisy is glaring. If Obama really thinks the weather is changing because of human influence, he wouldn’t have set foot in the home of Mr. Perry, let alone hold a fundraiser there.

I don’t believe Obama, or most vocal eco-actitivists, really think that human-derived CO2 emissions are altering the weather or warming the the climate.  Instead, as I conclusively prove in my book, Eco-Tyranny, these masterminds are purposefully using a phony environmental crises to usher in their utopian world view which includes mass redistribution of wealth, radical scientific materialism, and absolute government control over our lives.

Don’t let our troops be forgotten! With the media's willful ignorance and Easter on its way we must remind our troops overseas that we still remember why they are there and everything they are doing for our nation!

Look at the latest headlines - the media is obsessed with election coverage, football teams trading players, and which football team Peyton Manning is going to. There is no coverage about the looming fight coming in Afghanistan.

Every spring, the "down-season" of winter melts away with the snow of the Afghan mountain ranges. When spring and summer arrive, the Taliban come out of their caves and face our troops. We can't let our brave military men and women be forgotten!

"They are going to come out at us very hard in the east," predicts US Marine Gen. John Allen, the commander of US-led coalition troops in Afghanistan.

One  of the most disappointing aspects of this primary contest has been the class  warfare attacks leveled against Mitt Romney -- not by the president, but by  fellow Republicans.
Historically  falling within the jurisdiction of the left wing, Pandora's Class Warfare Box  was opened by Newt Gingrich when pro-Newt super-PACs attacked Romney's tenure  and success at Bain Capital.  Gingrich, while technically no more  responsible for these ads than Romney for his super-PAC, immediately and  relentlessly started to carpet-bomb Romney's success until forced to back off  when conservative voters made it clear that this tactic did not resonate with  them.
Rick  Perry embraced Newt's anti-1% rhetoric tout de suite when he called  Romney a "vulture capitalist."  This didn't hit conservatives in the sweet  spot either.

Rush Limbaugh listeners Attack Media Matters for America for hiring Anti-Semite - Call Donors in Protest!

It takes a fair amount of panache to wag your fingers at others for being over the line and intolerant even while you are blatantly dismissing the same behavior in your own back yard. But that is exactly what Media Matters for America (MMFA) continues to do as they steadfastly unload their weaponry on Rush Limbaugh with “devastating” videos like this.

I guess where Media Matters comes from 10,000 views is a media blitzkrieg. The effectiveness of their campaign aside, it’s clear that MMFA wants everyone to know that Rush pulling an Ed Schultz and calling a public figure a slut is absolutely unforgivable. Apparently believing that there is a secret Zionist Israeli Cabal that manipulates American foreign policy, is a-ok however. At least that’s all one could assume from reviewing the stated positions of Media Matters “Fellow” M.J. Rosenberg.

Daniel Halper of the Weekly Standard gives some insight into Rosenberg’s views at Jerusalem Post:

He even often employs the term “Israel firster” to define an American politician or even pundit who he believes places Israel’s interest above his own nation’s. (The term itself was popularized by white supremacists.) For Rosenberg, support for Israel is tantamount to supporting a wouldbe murderous regime. “There is nothing Israel cd do to Arabs that Hoyer/Weiner/Ackerman/Berman/B erkley/Israel wd object 2.NOTHING,” Rosenberg tweeted, linking to a piece he had written that blasted Congress for welcoming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to deliver a joint session of Congress. Congressmen Steny Hoyer, Anthony Weiner, Gary Ackerman, Howard Berman, Shelley Berkley and Steve Israel are all Democrats – and Jews.

Rosenberg also pushes the supposed influence Jewish money has in politics, as well. “I wonder if any candidate in either party other than Joe L would slobber over Israel if it wasn’t for the $. Actually I don’t wonder,” Rosenberg said on Twitter last month. The reference was to Joe Lieberman, the former vice presidential Democratic candidate.

Rosenberg himself credits notorious anti-Israel polemicists John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, authors of The Israel Lobby, for creating a political environment friendly to his own political and personal beliefs.

I’m sure Rosenberg views all of this through the lens of moral equivalency and a false sense of objectivity. He thinks that support is tilted so unfairly in Israel’s favor and that it’s preposterous to claim merely being against a nation’s policy positions is inherently racist. But as was pointed out above, he’s already accustomed to using supremacist language such as “Israel firster.” And at some point he was even forced to confront the roots of this term and interestingly, became of the opinion that he had to curb that language. Totally coincidentally, The Center for American Progress (CAP) had come under fire for being anti-Semitic and, little known fact, funding for CAP & MMFA are tied to one another.

During 2008, Media Matters entered into a fundraising-sharing agreement with the liberal Center for American Progress, which is run by former Bill Clinton chief of staff John Podesta. According to the agreement, “both organizations agreed to collaborate to raise funds to create a definitive progressive nerve center,” and to “split, equally, all contributions raised for the progressive nerve center.”

As a result, Rosenberg ended up having to drop his white supremacist rhetoric. How do we know this? Well he emailed that very information to an MMFA distribution list:

I have been under assault by various people on the right for my vigorous criticism of AIPAC and its role in promoting confrontation with Iran. My critics are particularly irked that I use the term Israel Firster to describe people who, in my opinion, put the interests of the Israeli right above everything else. This includes politicians such as Newt Gingrich, who as far as I know, is not Jewish. Watching the AIPAC conference convinced me that I must recommit myself to fighting those who are working to lead this country and/or Israel to war in Iran.

But I will do so without using the term “Israel Firster.”

That must have been a sad day for him, as Rosenberg is quite proud of his work actually. He’s completely oblivious to the fact that it’s less about his poor choice of phrases, and more about his apparent disdain for the people of Israel who have, at every turn, worked for peace.

But Media Matters has continued to move further and further to the fringe on the topic of Israel, and Rosenberg has been happy to take credit.

“[Media Matters] is an amazing organization that is in the business of monitoring right-wing propaganda…until I got there they did not have any; they did nothing on foreign policy,” Rosenberg would tell an audience at the Palestine Center in Washington a year later on September 23, 2010. “They made this decision to hire me and hire me with my views because they wanted to be involved with this issue. They wanted to be involved in the Palestinian issue. They want to be involved in stopping war with Iran. And this is a big thing.”

So he’s the big man on campus over there I guess, and all the Media Matters cronies are following his lead, at least when they aren’t dealing with bizarre paranoid behavior from David Brock. Surely all of those MMFA donors must be pleased to know that they are subsidizing this man, this one man wrecking crew trying to ensure Iran’s dreams of the destruction of Israel. He calls his imaginary Zionist Cabal that controls everything “The Lobby.” Creepy. Sounds like a John Grisham novel. I guess he’d be the hero? The one man standing up for … uh… Iran? The “one-man Iran Lobby?” That’s getting into Steven Seagal title territory.

So who’s up for a good old fashioned revenge shaming? Maybe it’s time Media Matters had a heart to heart with their donors to explain why paranoid tales of Jewish Cabals isn’t as bad as saying a word used nightly on network television.

Maybe there is something to this "birther" controversy.

With the price for a regular gallon of gas topping $3.80 on Monday, angry politicians are blaming the higher prices on speculators and greedy oil companies.

On Friday, President Obama announced that he was “making sure that my Attorney General is paying attention to potential speculation in the oil markets.” 23 Senators and 45 congressmen, all Democrats for one independent, are calling for urgent action against the “speculators” they hold responsible.

These members of congress want the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to use its new regulatory powers under a law Obama signed two years ago to limit the amount of oil that speculators can buy.

This isn’t a new concern.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Obama campaigned against "the special interest politics that put the interests of Big Oil and speculators ahead of the interests of working people," and surely implied that an Obama administration would end these high prices by clamping down on speculation.

Possibly that is why a new Washington Post/ABC News survey released on Monday shows that soaring gas prices have taken a toll on Obama, with 50 percent of American's strongly disapproving of Obama's economic performance -- the highest in the poll's history.

Unfortunately, neither the Democrats in Congress nor Obama appear to have a clue how markets work.

Everyone wants lower prices, but many politicians seem unable to understand that what speculators really do: they actually smooth out wild swings in prices. Speculators make profits by buying oil when the price is low and selling it when it is high.

When prices are expected to rise in the future, they buy oil today and sell it when they think the higher price occurs. They will keep doing this until the gap between today’s prices and tomorrow’s expected price virtually disappears.

Tensions have risen over the last few weeks as Iran threatens to block oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz if Israel attacks their nuclear facilities. With up to 20 percent of the world’s oil supply at risk -- an amount equal to the entire production from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates -- steep price increases are a real possibility.

The risk immediately increased oil prices. Speculators aren’t waiting for Israel to actually attack. By buying oil now in order to set it aside if supplies are interrupted if the conflict occurs, consumers are actually protected. Storing oil for this possible crisis will prevent what would have been even higher prices.

The Democrats obviously think speculators are not justified in their attempts to start bidding up prices. And, indeed, Israel’s attack might never occur. Yet, if speculators didn’t do that and oil shipments are halted, the much bigger increase in oil prices would surely cause these very same politicians to really call for the scalps of everyone in the oil business.

Long a harbinger of national trends and an incubator of innovation, cash-strapped California eagerly awaits a temporary revenue surge from Facebook IPO stock options and capital gains. Meanwhile, Stockton may soon become the state's largest city to go bust. Call it the agony and ecstasy of contemporary California.

California's rising standards of living and outstanding public schools and universities once attracted millions seeking upward economic mobility. But then something went radically wrong as California legislatures and governors built a welfare state on high tax rates, liberal entitlement benefits, and excessive regulation. The results, though predictable, are nonetheless striking. From the mid-1980s to 2005, California's population grew by 10 million, while Medicaid recipients soared by seven million; tax filers paying income taxes rose by just 150,000; and the prison population swelled by 115,000.

California's economy, which used to outperform the rest of the country, now substantially underperforms. The unemployment rate, at 10.9%, is higher than every other state except Nevada and Rhode Island. With 12% of America's population, California has one third of the nation's welfare recipients.

Partly due to generous union wages and benefits, inflexible work rules and lobbying for more spending, many state programs and institutions spend too much and achieve too little. For example, annual spending on each California prison inmate is equal to an entire middle-income family's after-tax income. Many of California's K-12 public schools rank poorly on standardized tests. The unfunded pension and retiree health-care liabilities of workers in the state-run Calpers system, which includes teachers and university personnel, totals around $250 billion.

Meanwhile, the state lurches from fiscal tragedy to fiscal farce, running deficits in good times as well as bad. The general fund's spending exceeded its tax revenues in nine of the last 10 years (the only exceptions being 2005 at the height of the housing bubble), abetted by creative accounting and temporary IOUs.

Now, the bill is coming due. After running a $5 billion deficit last year and another likely deficit this year, Gov. Jerry Brown's budget increases spending next year by $7 billion and finances the higher spending with income and sales-tax hikes. Specifically, he's proposing a November ballot initiative raising the state's top income tax rate to 12.3%, making it the nation's highest, and raising the basic state sales tax rate, already the nation's highest, to 7.75% from 7.25%.

How's the great contraception mandate battle of 2012 playing out? If you read the Washington Post's news coverage, the issue is supposedly killing Republicans among female voters. But the newest Washington Post/ABC poll tells a different story.

During the first few days of February, about a week before Obama declared a so-called "accommodation" to the contraception/abortifacient mandate, a Washington Post/ABC poll showed Obama's approval rating at 50 percent, with 46 percent of Americans disapproving.

Then, from March 7 to 10--a week into the national media firestorm surrounding Rush Limbaugh's degrading remarks about Georgetown Law student and liberal activist Sandra Fluke--Washington Post/ABC conducted another poll. It found Obama's approval rating at 46 percent, down four points from February, and his disapproval rating at 50 percent, up four points from February.

As a new poll shows more Americans are holding President Obama responsible for soaring gas prices, the president Monday trumpeted a report from his own administration that  praises him for reducing the country’s reliance on foreign oil.

“We have made progress, with imports of foreign oil decreasing by a million barrels a day in the last year alone,” Mr. Obama said in a statement. “Our focus on increased domestic oil and gas production, currently at an eight-year high, combined with the historic fuel economy standards we put in place, means that we will continue to reduce our nation’s vulnerability to the ups and downs of the global oil market.”

Footage of Barack Obama praising and hugging Professor Derrick Bell. It was spliced and diced by the media to avoid showing just how close Obama was to Bell. More than that, a close associate of the Obama campaign, Harvard Law School’s Professor Charles Ogletree, admitted on our exclusive tape, “We hid this throughout the 2008 campaign. I don’t care if they find it now.

I think of Andrew Breitbart every day since he died, I am (again) reminded we only get one chance to get it right. My husband knows this too. Jack Swanson (pictured below) is dedicating some of his days to flying rescue dogs. This weekend, he flew "Kemper" from the worst pound in California to his new farm life in Paso Robles.

He volunteers his time to a cool group called Pilots 'N Paws.

Andrew Breitbart

Remembering A Lion for the Conservative Cause

Andrew Breitbart was our friend, our colleague, and our brother in supporting America’s troops. We are saddened beyond belief by the news of his untimely death last night. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his wife Susannah, his four children and his family.

May he rest in peace with God.

We celebrate his life and efforts.

Much has been written about the big stories that Andrew broke and his public battles against the liberal media and the political left.

What folks may not know is the real Andrew, the man that unselfishly volunteered his time to support causes that he believed in.  He didn’t just talk about problems in society, he worked on fixing them.

One cause that was dear to Andrew's heart was supporting our military men and women.  Andrew was a true friend and advocate of our troops.  He lived near the Los Angeles National Cemetery, and he was moved by seeing family members pay tribute to their fallen heroes.  It burned in him a desire to help support our troops and their families.

He reached out to Move America Forward and asked what he could do to help. He was a great resource to MAF behind the scenes too.  He was also unafraid to join with us publicly in stating his love and care for your troops and their mission, as well as joining our protest against the anti-military Code Pink – showing up characteristically on his skate board.  Lest we forget, it has taken people like Andrew Breitbart to give voice to those Americans who value what our troops do in protecting America.

Andrew clearly understood the need to have a public expression of support for the troops. He never, ever wanted another Vietnam Syndrome to affect the United States when our troops went unappreciated and even scorned by some for their service to our country.

Andrew surrounded by friends at MAF's most recent Troopathon 2011

When we started the Troopathons (our web-a-thon to raise money for care packages for the troops), Andrew was instantly on board.  He co-anchored the fund-raiser with great gusto, bringing along some of his Hollywood friends.  Andrew helped bring in more than $3 million for care packages. His generosity was well known among his friends and close associates.

Andrew had a very serious side when he was fighting against anyone that he felt was harming America, but he also had a playful spirit that inspired and embraced life. We put together a short video to share with you some of those many sides of Andrew that we had the honor to share with him and will continue to be inspired by.

As the blogosphere and MSM explode with varying angles on the death of our friend Andrew Breitbart, we think about him on a personal level. The hatemongers are out, dancing around Andrew’s death like radicalized Muslims after 9/11. One tweeted that she was happier to hear of Andrew’s death than when she heard that Navy SEALS had killed Osama bin Laden. If Andrew were here, he would get in their faces and back the crazies down. What they may not realize is that we in the conservative movement ARE Andrew Breitbart.

He may be gone from this earth, but his soul is part of us and part of America’s fiber. We have picked up the baton and we will not falter.

Much has been written about the big stories that Andrew broke. Though he wasn’t trained as a journalist, he used traditional journalistic methods to rip the veil off the mainstream media and those they prop up. He didn’t just talk about the collusion between so-called journalists and the hard-left, he knew it. He lived it. Andrew helped found the Huffington Post before Arianna Huffington took a radical left. He knew the inside and out of the left because he saw it up close and personal, and he never flinched from the ugly truth.

But we all know about this.

What folks may not know is the real Andrew, the husband of Susie and the father of four beautiful children. We were blessed to call Andrew friend and to know what made him tick. He didn’t just talk about problems in society, he worked on fixing them.

When we headed the nonprofit Move America Forward, which supports our troops and their missions, we started a webathon to raise money for care packages for the troops. Andrew was instantly on board and the last few years he co-anchored the fund-raiser with great gusto, bringing along some of his Hollywood friends (yes, he had plenty of friends in Hollyweird). Andrew helped bring in more than $3 million for care packages. His generosity was well known among his friends and close associates.

Andrew liked to say he had ADD. We like to think of him as a master multi-tasker. We remember with great fondness the evening we spent at Andrew’s home back in 2006 during our book tour. A group of his friends gathered and Susie cooked some of the best quesadillas we have ever enjoyed. The subject of the night: how to put together the vast right-wing conspiracy that Hillary Clinton talked about. Andrew knew that those who control the media control thought. He had worked with Drudge and
was new.

“Hollywood is a problem,” Andrew said. “Conservative actors, producers and others can’t come out of the closet, or they won’t work again.”

He thought out loud in a stream of consciousness that would seem more fit for a gathering of hippies – except it was conservative bent. Between thoughts, Andrew sat at his computer like Capt. Kirk at the helm of the Starship Enterprise. He could talk, read stories, eat, search vast stories of stories, post and look after his children all at the
same time.

Andrew would soon answer the radical left and the Hollywood thugs with a string of Big websites. Hollywood a problem? Give them Government intruding on citizens’ Constitutional rights? Give them

His genius lay in his knowledge of new media and the hungry nature of conservatism, which was looking for a media hero. We found it in Andrew Breitbart.

He would let nobody go unnoticed if they were hurting America. Andrew was fearless on the outside, but always was concerned about his family. They truly came first, which sounds like such a cliché. A family man he was.

That night when we spurred what we joked was the vast-right-wing-conspiracy, then wondered where to go with it, Andrew’s ideas gelled. His mind fired like a
Gatling gun.

Only once did we see the great Andrew Breitbart turn his complete focus to one thing, and that was his family. When it was time for his children to go to bed, Andrew stopped everything. He tucked them into bed and kissed them good night.

God bless you, Andrew. Thanks for the memories and, yes, we and the others you inspired will carry the torch.

And from the Tea Party Express:

Devastating. For those of you who were at Searchlight, you probably remember his speech and his ability to fearlessly confront the lies and deception from the left. Here is a little note from us.

My friend Sean Hannity just emailed me this response to the news that our friend Andrew is now with the Angels. And by the way, Heaven seems like a much more attractive place now that I know Andrew  is horsing around up there.

"...Andrew was a warrior, though a happy warrior, who relished political combat. He cared deeply for his friends, his family and his country. The movement has lost a  passionate advocate. And I have lost a good friend.

His death at such a young age is just a shock to all.

It’s hard to fathom the death of someone who was such a life-force – engaged, energetic, passionate, a person who lived his life full out and all out.

I pray that the tender mercies of the Lord surround Andrew’s family and his friends, in this hour of grief; that we all preserve the wonderful memories and moments Andrew created; and that he is finding peace in our true home.

Andrew Thank you, you will never be forgotten and may u rest in peace."

Sean Hannity, March 1, 2012

"My favorite story about Andrew Breitbart was the launch of the Tea Party Express bus tour across the country, with Sarah Palin as featured speaker. Andrew, never afraid of confrontation, waded into the crowd of counter protestors, egging them by asking questions about their ideology. Their response? The angry crowd pelted Breitbart with rotten eggs as he clambored aboard the bus.

Andrew laughed and laughed and laughed. He always saw the humor in the confrontation between right and left."

"Andrew Breitbart never shied away from confrontation. A year ago Andrew decided to confront the Codepink sponsored fund-raiser for California Governor Brown, in an attempt to shame him for accepting support from a group that had sent over a half million dollars to terrorists killing U.S. troops. Andrew showed up wearing roller blades. And a bullhorn. And he knew how to use it."

"Breitbart was passionate about supporting the United States military. He co-hosted a web broadcast four years in a row to help raise money for care packages to the U.S. military. He even offered to shave his head, or do a handstand if it would bring in more money to serve the military overseas. He helped raise more than three million dollars for Move America Forward. He was scheduled to resume his hosting duties this June before God called him home."

Andrew Breitbart is dead. I cannot believe this. He has been my friend for the better part of a decade. And an inspiration to conservatives everywhere.

Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles.

We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior.

Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love.

Andrew recently wrote a new conclusion to his book, Righteous Indignation:

I love my job. I love fighting for what I believe in. I love having fun while doing it. I love reporting stories that the Complex refuses to report. I love fighting back, I love finding allies, and—famously—I enjoy making enemies.

Three years ago, I was mostly a behind-the-scenes guy who linked to stuff on a very popular website. I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I’ve lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I’ve gained hundreds, thousands—who knows?—of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I

A chilling threat from Media Matters, a George Soros funded organization dedicated to destroying conservatives.

Media Matters has now made issued notice it intends to dig up dirt INDIVIDUALS who work at Fox News with damaging personal information it is gathering in opposition research.

Is this America? Will the FBI or anybody investigate the so-called investigators? Uh, no. That was a rhetorical question.

These scumbags are beyond contempt, and I know from personal experience.

Media Matters developing 'opposition research' on Fox, has list of 'every single person' at network

By Steven Nelson - The Daily Caller  5:45 PM 03/26/2011 (5:45 PM)

Politico published an eye-opening report on Saturday by Ben Smith about “Media Matter’s war against Fox.” Smith wrote that the organization continues to transform itself into an exclusively Fox News-battling group.

Media Matters founder David Brock told Politico that his organization’s activism has developed into a “strategy of containment.” This strategy includes extensive work to compile intelligence on the employees of the cable news channel.

“We made a list of every single person who works for Fox and tried to figure out who might be disgruntled and why, and we went out to try to meet them,” Media Matters executive vice president Ari Rabin-Havt told Politico. “Somebody in that organization is giving us primary source documents.”

Rabin-Havt also told Politico that Media Matters was compiling “opposition research” files on “mid- and senior-level execs and producers.”

“Criticizing Fox News has nothing to do with criticizing the press,” read a 2010 memo by Brock that was acquired by Politico. “Fox News is not a news organization. It is the de facto leader of the GOP, and it is long past time that it is treated as such by the media, elected officials and the public.”

Brock was formerly a conservative journalist. In 1993 he wrote an award-winning investigation for The American Spectator about Bill Clinton’s sex life as governor of Arkansas. In 2004 Brock founded Media Matters after expressing regret for his past as a conservative journalist

Dear Pro-Troop Supporters

Every year Move America Forward puts on a single, huge fundraiser to send the troops the largest single shipment of care packages. This year we are going to try to beat our previous record, set in 2008 when we raised $1.3M on the night of the first inaugural Troopathon!

As the weather in Afghanistan and Iraq heats up, we have to step up our efforts to support our troops and supply them not only with goodies and treats but also our gratitude and support.

New Troopathon Logo
for 2011 Revealed!

This year’s theme is "Remember Their Sacrifice" to remind us that all of our troops: Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves, have given up and risked so much for our sake. All of our troops are putting their lives on the line for our freedom, so we owe them our total support!

In 2008 and 2009 our 8 Hour Troopathons were a huge success, but only because we had the support of the American people. We are going to need your support again this year more than ever before.

We have some exciting guests this year that we will be announcing soon.  So go mark your calendars RIGHT  NOW and mark TROOPATHON on your schedule for THURSDAY JUNE 23, 2011.
