Welcome (back) KSFO listeners! This is one weird day for me. Many of you may be listening to me on the radio Friday morning from 5 a.m. to 9:00 on the Lee Rodgers show, 560 am in San Francisco.
It used to be the Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan show, but budget cut-backs and company-wide layoffs resulted in a year of muffled silence from my end of the Bay.
But recently I recieved a call from the static factory asking me to help with some morning drive fill-in, and I was happy to join the boys again, albeit temporarily. I'll be back on the air with Brian on Monday, and Lee again on Tuesday.
Which brings me to another life-changer that I have dreaded reporting but it's the truth, so here it is.
I have decided to step down as Chairman of Move America Forward for personal and professional reasons.
MAF, with its mission to support our troops and their missions worldwide has afforded me an incredible array of opportunities to show my love and appreciation for our servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, and elsewhere.
Our organization has done 5 road trips across America to honor our heroes, building and maintaining support for our troops mission, as well as reaching out to military families in the process.
MAF was formed in 2004 with Howard Kaloogian, who himself stepped down in 2006 to run for Congress. MAF's small staff, fierce energy, intellect, street smarts and passion helped stall out a tsunami of anti-war sentiment in 2004, and fought to honor and acknowledge the troops who are winning the war in Iraq.
No spitting at our guys and gals on our watch. This is NOT 1968, and we refused to allow the MoveOn.org crowd to make it so.
My organization also worked night and day to provide care packages to our troops. We have sent almost 400 tons of cookies, coffee, beef jerky, fans, heaters and other personal care items to Iraq.
I have verbally duelled some of the nastiest pundits and leftists (usually one and the same) on TV, radio and in print. (Remember arch-feminist Naomi Wolfe and my comment "you'll look super in a Burka?)
At the end of the day, I am proud of what Move America Forward has been able to accomplish.
I want to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of Catherine Moy, our Executive Director, Mary Pearson, Danny Gonzalez, Ryan, Doug Lorenz, the wonderful Donald LaCombe, Frances and Erica, as well as Joe and Sal.
My heart and love goes out to Debbie Lee, whose son Marc Alan Lee was killed in Iraq. Debbie has traveled the country and beyond with me and our troops, representing Gold Star families who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and speaking eloquently in hundreds of interviews. Diana Nagy, the fantastic singer and songwriter, has my deepest thanks, too.
There are so many people to acknowledge, so little time.
God Bless all of YOU who have contributed to Move America Forward, and please remember to keep those contributions coming at www.moveamericaforward.org
P.S. Y'all will still hear from me from time to time on matters of national security, my passion.
Until then, please order Homegrown Jihad (link above) because I personally know the folks who have put this phenomenal DVD together to help alert America to the dangers ahead from radical fundamentalists.
